It was a great learning experience. I did hunt that area also, it was super steep and thick, not a lot of glassing areas. Its a lot of hiking down and basically bumping elk and shooting them on the bump at least that is the strategy i heard some use. Glassing in the area would be looking at the...
Definitely. However, i ended up with covid, so I'm locked up for a bit but will hit it hard next week when its more socially appropriate for me to leave the apartment to go hide in the woods.
Definitely. I have some people hunting in a relative area near Bertha, and they had good sightings of deer. But yes, find the food. Working on it in the woods! Its a decent size track of woods so identifying the food sources there and locating them does take time or knowledge to find especially...
I like these two cents, I think, as other have posted, I just need to drill down on where better sign is. Some has been found, but not the best. And as mentioned could be nighttime sign. Thank you!
Definitely taking Friday off early from work, so this does sound like a good idea. Its a pretty decent area to explore. So checking out a new area within, expand where i was at might be the best. And if i play the wind right while scouting and stay quiet enough maybe I will run across one.
That does sound like a good idea. Get to a spot I know right away to be there before sun up, but then game plan from there. It is a tough situtuation of, "maybe a better spot is 100 yards away" ha. But at least walking around you can get a feel for the different area of the woods.
Ah, forgot to mention, opening weekend of gun hunting here in MN. There was an mid october youth hunt in the state, but not sure on dates and what locations that applies too. But yeah, we mostly sit tree stands and on travel routes. and mostly if we break its later in the morning and a quick...
Hey y'all, yes, I am hunting minnesota, just looking for thoughts on what you guys would do.
This last weekend rifle hunted for white tail in minnesota. It was a new public land spot to my dad and I, only walked around it a few weeks back and found some trails and sign. Nothing really great...
Definitely worth testing before the field. Looking at doing some at home winter camping with it, so the first time being out in it when its snowing is not when I'm on a mountain.
One thing I would add here is look at state specific requiremnets for carcass disposal. Where I grew up hunting, and still hunt, carcasses may not be disposed of on public lands. This requires taking the whole carcass out of the woods. If any of the above methods are not used to drag or haul the...
Hey y'all! So I have been debating getting a floorless shelter some time now. Part of me wants to use it around the upper midwest, as I live here, (North Dakota and would use in MN) but am a little apprehensive with the mosquitoes and such that are rampant out here in the summer. I have really...
One thing about idaho too is the archery permit and main license, and if you're out of state, they don't mail it too you if you order it online. So either screenshot the email or print it off your order with the numbers on it.
Hey! It seems you have some good insight into the unit from others. I was down in this unit first archery season with my buddy that had a tag. Definitely willing to share what i saw terrain wise or elk wise. I know it may shift for rifle, but could share some of my information if you still are...
I have a peak design clip. It works well! Just remember to practice your shot, archery or rifle, with the camera still on the backpack. I had it on my right shoulder for archery season, but kept it there for a rifle hunt and as we saw a coyote, I realized my camera was on my shooting shoulder...
I'm running closer to a 190 or 200 weight merino wool base layer, but I also use it for white tail hunting when its below zero in the Midwest. However on top of it I have a lightweight polyester Sitka hoody. (Decided to go to a hiking brands website and buy merino wool base layers instead of...
