Just put the tape on these bad boys. I gave an 8 inchs for the skull plate. I think that it is probably closer to 10. The spread creadit is 56 inches. The gross score is 199 4/8 and the net score is 196. Definately a Booner Canadian. Thing is this bull lives in an area SCI calls Shiras, which I...
I'm fortunate enough to get to hunt the mule deer rut every year and they do get very aggressive beating trees. I have seen dink 4 points right up to monster muleys beat trees to pulp. I use rubbing as a tactic during the rut. I carry a shed antler and rub trees as well. I've had battles with...
Oh BTW,
I know that by measuring the animals still on the carcus it usually gives a smaller measurment, or else I've been doing something wrong. I've always had good results on the bear coming back from the taxidermist at what I measured the green hide at though. I've heard guys measuring the...
Big Sky,
I'm using a beat up ol' Canon AE1 35mm. I'm old fashioned and still haven't moved up to the modern cameras yet. Although, I'm in the market for a new video camera and I have a feeling that I will be going 100% digital.
HS,
I see you found some of my latest pics on MM. I'll post them...
HS,
There have been many a bear that I've had the same thing happen.
My horn pile is pretty damn big. I haven't been counting but I have found a whack this spring.
You really have to look at a ton of bears both live and dead to get a appreciation of size. A 6 foot bear is in my opinion a trophy class bear, comparable to a 170 class muley. A mature bear normally has got small ears on the side of their head versus big ears on the top. You really have to get...
Horn Seeker,
No problem stirring the $hit. If there is anything I've learned over the many years that I've been killing bears (have personally skinned 25 bears in the last 2 years alone)is that bears are the hardest creatures to take good pics of. They are like "Slinkies" and can appear small or...
I took the pics myself by putting my camera on a tripod and a timer and running to get in place for the shot. Have to say I'm very surprised that they turned out so well.
The rifle is a Parker Hale 300 Win Mag. It's a handmedown from my dad but a hell of a great shooter.
There's really not much...
Moosie,
Looks like he has your sense of humor. LOL! Or else he's in that stage (seems my son is in this stage too) where he has to make a funny face everytime the camera is on him.
DKO,
Sorry for the confussion. Now that you've explained it I understand. Sounds like you have some good friends to be able to jump in spur of the moment like that. All those bears are very nice. It has really been a banner year for bears up here.
I live just north of Kamloops. Just got back...
"Because you have to have a guide to hunt here we had our Buddy Dave's bro Ed tag along"
I'm a little confused by this statement. Is Jay a non-resident? Is Ed a licenced guide working for the outfitter within the territory you were hunting?
I've got some high and lofty goals for 2004 and it will start with finding some of my highcountry pals wearing their vlevet head gear in another month os so. I've got several bucks that I have seen and watched grow up. I will be targeting individual bucks come Sept. If one of those big bastards...
Definately a HAWG!!! No doubt that is a big bear. I like the fact that the pic is of him right next to the bear instead of way behind it. Really gives the perspective on how big his body really is.
Pics are still on the camera. I've been eating through the film this spring. When I get done in June I'll take all the film in and get it developed. I'll post up a whack of pics then.
Been out in Bear Camp for 2 weeks now and we have taken 22 bears thus far. Got another 16 hunters comin in for 2 more 7 day hunts. Many will have 2 tags. Looks like we will have a record year this year.
On a side note, I got the day off and decided to come home and see the family and saw one...
Moosie,
I've seen a few little guys thus far but haven't even bought a tag yet. It's way too early yet and I've been busy chasing sheds. LOL! I'll get serious about bears come the end of the month when they are around every freakin' corner. No sense wasting a tank of gas yet. LMAO!!!
