    My sons 2023 Hunt Season

That's a great story. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to hear how the Elk hunt goes.

    Hunting and Bipolar

I feel the same way about the natural" landscape of Illinois where I live. There are a lot of good things happening, but then you'll drive past a spot where a fencerow was bulldozed and now there is a huge cornfield with no habitat breaks for a half mile. I would love to see the state...

What is your single top hunting season goal this year? I expect updates damn it.

Number 1 goal is to take a whitetail with the recurve bow that my dad got when he was in college. It was always in his gun cabinet and I always thought it was the neatest thing in the world. I liberated it from his house about 10 years ago and have plinked at targets with it, but this year I am...

    Ben's 2023 Semi-Live Hunt Log

I've been shooting my dad's old recurve a decent amount. Starting to figure out how to aim it consistently. That's my grouping at 15 yards. Need to move back to 20 and see if I can get that grouping. I am definitely planning on hunting with it this fall.

    My Official Notice

I usually don't play unless the jackpot is over $350million. Can't be bothered with winning less than that. I only ever buy 1 ticket for each draw. They say that the odds are 1 in a billion, but the way I look at it, the ticket will win or not win, so it is 50/50. If I win, I'll quit my job...

    Custom Recurve feedback?

I considered purchasing a custom recurve last year. I'll be honest, the long wait and the $1000+ price put me off. But that is because I do have a nice recurve that my dad got back in the late 60's. A hunting buddy of his was making them. I felt that it was too small for me, but I decided to...

    Ben's 2023 Semi-Live Hunt Log

Not a whole lot to report. I have been making some plans for the fall. Going to hunt a second firearm season with a new hunting buddy. Picked up a fall shotgun turkey permit. I have tentative plans for a private land archery rut hunt in Ohio with another buddy. And I am going to try to find time...

No entiendo lo que estas diciendo. ¿Hablas inglés? - An Argentinian Experience

Just out of curiosity, do you get to bring all the duck meat back with you? And are any of those ducks getting stuffed to go on your mantle? Some of them looked pretty unique.

Fix my screw up. (Elk mount)

I like the idea of driftwood, deadfall or a branch or something. I think it would add to the look.

    Woodworking Hunt Talkers?

With my router sled, I need to sand with 40 grit to get the machine marks out. Sometimes I can just go with 80 grit, but 40 grit gets it right out for me.

    Woodworking Hunt Talkers?

In the picture you can see the router sled is riding on some 1x4 stock. That are just pallet slats that I repurposed. Two 1x4s screwed together at a right angle. It's a pretty low cost way to go.

    Woodworking Hunt Talkers?

I made it. The ends are short sections of 4x4 and the rails are 1/2" or 3/4" aluminum L-shaped bar. cheap, easy and it works really well. I made a longer one for use on wider pieces too.

    Woodworking Hunt Talkers?

I got a turkey this year. It was six long years since my last one and I figured that was a special enough occasion to warrant making a tail fan display. The feather attached on the side and wood-burnt on the center was something I found when I sat down under the cottonwood tree to set up for...

    Ben's 2023 Semi-Live Hunt Log

Finally got my turkey fan display finished up. I will post in the woodworking thread about the making of it, but here's what it looks like. Really happy with it, but I need to convince the wife that there is a wall that it would look perfect on...

    Woodworking Hunt Talkers?

Now that turkey season is over for me, I am back in the woodshop moving projects along. Just finished a Mother's Day gift for my wife. She said she wanted a lazy Susan for the dining room table so I got a log section from a Hackberry tree that fell down on my friend's farm and went to work...

    Ben's 2023 Semi-Live Hunt Log

I went out Saturday morning and heard a few gobbles. They sounded like they were north and east of my position but I was hoping I could get him to come my way after he flew down, but a few minutes after sunrise the gobbling stopped. I did see a hen skirting the field edge at the north end of the...

    Ben's 2023 Semi-Live Hunt Log

My last tag is up this weekend. I'll be in that same place I went with my buddy last weekend. I'm hoping that hen will still be around and that a tom is out looking for her. Hard to tell what will happen, but I will make the effort to be out there.

    Ben's 2023 Semi-Live Hunt Log

I went out with a buddy on Saturday. We saw a couple of hens early and then we watched a coyote about 500 yards away just walking around in circles for about 20 minutes. Later we saw one of the hens pretty close. She was within 50 ish yards for about 45 minutes. And then it started raining and...

Why can’t you carry a gun while archery hunting deer in Illinois?

I agree that this is short-sighted on the part of Illinois DNR. For example, shotgun turkey season coincides with archery deer season. I would like to take my bow along with me incase I see a deer while I am turkey hunting. I also saw a very nice buck crossing a river 20 yards upstream from me...
