I have been looking at the A7 also, and the Tikka T3 superlight, made by sako (cabelas offering only) this would be a great Mtn. rifle. Camo stock with fluted barrel. under 6 pounds.
Also, that 7mm-08 cal. is very underrated. I have seen a lot of one shot kills with that cal. including elk...
Noticed a special youth hunt, Elk Dist. 103 Lost Trial NWR. Anyone know about or been to this Lost Trial NWR.
Would really like to see some more "true" youth opps.
Can not believe no changes for Moose in R.3.
Major cuts in quota for deer/elk...
Very well said, 300stw. I also spend a lot of time in reg. 6 and 7. Deer numbers are really bad. For a biologist to tell you there is a "tremendous population of deer" that makes me sick.......my family has also had two 652 tags in the last three years. An area that is a "special permit". Total...
Like Randy11 said, a few years of no doe harvest the results will be obvious. Very smart decision, for sure. CMR allows no antlerless harvest, which I like, and has been good to me....although numbers are down there also...coyote problem.......
There is an article in the Billings Gazette This morning (Sat. 12/7/13). Titled "No Does; State considering no antlerless "B" hunting.
A step in the right direction, for sure. But, years to late....maybe FWP is waking up....
Thanks. Just got back from elk hunting. Saw a lot of cows and small bulls, over 300 this morning alone. Not sure where the mature bulls are, big groups of cows is all I could find. Fun to see a lot of elk, the cold snap got them moving, in SW MT. Now, off to eastern MT in the morning for muleys.
Congrats..I feel the same about the 7mm-08 cal. seen a lot of one shot kills with it, including my 12 year olds this year. Posted a thread on here "12 year old sons buck". We are heading out tomorrow morning to find a muley for myself and Dad. Good job..
Thank you for all the Positive comments...that is one big reason I like hunt talk. Good luck to all that still have tags. I am leaving tonight around 2am for some elk hunting, that should put me at my spot at daybreak. Take care everyone.
This is a buck my 12 year old took last weekend. Had a great stalk and he did the rest like a pro. Seen a lot of one shot kills with that 7mm-08 caliber. He took a buck last year as a 11 year old that was also a nice 4pt. Fun times.....
