I am fortunate enough to almost always fill my bull tag, and most times the steaks from the big stinky bulls taste just great! With all that bull meat, I rarely hesitate to select a calf with my antlerless tag. I generally pay to have my bull processed, and get lots of roasts which I can make...
Got awful hot after that and was back to camp by 9am....which was good cause we had a bull to take care of. My buddy has limited time this season so tagged out at first light on a raghorn.
We all sat water last night and while I had lots of deer and turkeys come in...the elk left me high and...
As expected it was pretty warmish here in the middle of MT. Had some great action for the first 90 minutes or so and was able to get in front of a herd headed for timber. Had a 270ish bull pushing the cows and could have been done right at first light.
After the herd pushed by I saw a cow...
The year was 1998...long before conveniences like camera phones and the little 110 camera I carried crapped out and I didn't even get trophy pics let alone a pack out pic. Best I got.....
Not a bad idea if you have the appropriate permit. One of the biggest bulls I ever shot jumped in the lake after I arrowed him. Thought for sure he would sink but he made it back to shore and we were able to talk some passing boaters into loading him whole into the boat. Backed my truck down...
I've tagged out earlier in the season before but don't think i have ever had less time in the field before connecting. Work and family obligations didn't allow me to get out much yet, but got lucky and found a good one and it all came together.
Set elk blinds all morning and on the way back to...
They don't require you to purchase the buffalo tag until just prior to hunting. The tag is expensive and some / most years the buff don't even leave the park.
FYI.... the Xten is one of the most "shootable" 10mm on the market. Those of you close to Bozeman, should come out to the Murdochs shooting expo on June 25th at the Logan range to try it out
You are not wrong....we run into lots of small blonde bears. Now that we each have that color checked off the to do list, they are generally pretty safe from us. Passed up this one the last day of the season last year.
I knew that little blonde bear wasn't very big when I pulled the trigger.... but it was still kind of a cool night with the way things turned out. My 2020 bear on the other hand, had me fooled. i had this one pegged for a big boar, and made a long shot across a canyon right at dark. Next...
I can do one better than a pic...... Ihad a "never been hunting before" buddy with me that night and it was decided that in order to live the full hunting experience he needed to be part of a gruling pack out. Elevation and distance made it a grunt...but the packs weights weren't too bad..LOL!
The wife and I struck out again.... BUT...... Daddy's little girl drew a West Yellowstone Bison tag!! She isn't so little anymore and with a nice long winter break between semesters at college, we should have some time to do this tag justice. She is pretty excited!
Don't think the gun is that old either. Pretty sure the CDL version was released in 2006...as I was working for Remington at the time. I could be wrong, but wondering if maybe the stock was updated on an older rifle. Pretty sure that is an R3 recoil pad, which I don't think was arround in...
