That article indicates two of the previous wolves released were illegally shot. Were the people who killed them caught? Have any of the other wolves died from any other causes? Wonder how quick there will be a noticeable impact.
I think if we had a spring season, we would get a lot more dedicated bear hunters. In my (somewhat limited) experience with bears in CA, they are wayy easier to find in the spring than in the fall. Also season wouldn't compete with other hunting seasons.
Born in Sioux Falls and have family there and yankton, but I grew up just outside Rapid and most of the family land that I've grown up hunting is in the Hills, just east of rapid and the NW part of the state.
If money wasn't an issue for me I'd use a guide lol maybe search for a new guide if you didn't like the last one. Or be very clear what your expectations are and what you are wanting out of it. Perhaps they could tailor the experience more for your liking
Around 12 I think? Have access to great private land in H9A which is a much easier draw than the public units where I shot this bull about 15minutes into the season... still not technically a guaranteed draw but pretty darn high odds.
Hey guys.
Born and raised in SD. College in CO. Moved to CA few years ago for work but hopefully moving back in the not so distant future. Majority of my hunting has been on private land where I really only thought about hunting during the season. I have points and will likely be doing a number...
At a minimum it brings more attention to hunters. Also provides some cover for IDFG to at least say they tried, which also helps combat the antis.
Someone that thought they knew but really isn't that experienced may miss a question and realize it isn't always quite as clear cut at first glance...
In South Dakota, a party application uses the minimum number of points of anyone in the application. I personally think more states should adopt this method. I have met many guys that find others that don't know what they're doing but have points and offer to take them to get in on their...
No but they're well regarded from the people I've talked to. I plan to hunt the same areas they guide this fall. Brian Kyncy did a podcast with Mike Costello on the 'Huntin Aint Easy' podcast that would be worth a listen to. I think the fully guided options fill up fairly quick so may want to...
I would love a spring season. Hunting them in the fall here is tough.. Would also take a bait or hound option but I think that is less likely to happen with the political climate here.
South Dakota doesnt have the space to hold a population of black bears imo. There would be way too much human/bear conflict. Some may wonder through now and then but I suspect there won't ever be a serious number of them.
There have been known bears walking many hundreds of miles. Pedals...
South Dakota West River deer
California Black Bear
California Blacktail/Mule deer
May join my father on his South Dakota Bull Elk if he decides to go this year
Apply for Antelope in South Dakota and Montana with 25% draw odds in my chosen unit with my number of points.
How'd it end up for you guys? I grew up not far outside the park and have been putting in for years now. Hoping to draw eventually lol I really wish they would open up more tags. They sell them for less during the round up than the tag costs, may as well release more tags, make more money, and...
