I never saw/heard true QC criticism. In fact, it was always along the lines of something like, “I can’t believe something that ugly shoots so well.” So I’m sure they had their share of lemons, but I suspect no more than Remington or Winchester had. Maybe it was also just the perception that...
No, you really can't argue with that performance. I must say, though, the Savages of the past several years (current gen, and one prior) are head and shoulders above previous ones in regards to aesthetics.
I like the idea of a heavy-enough barrel for threaded options, as well as the extra length. The LWH models are 20" if I'm not mistaken? Granted, I know that 2-4" doesn't mean a lot in real world applications, but I also just like the looks of the carbon guns. Maybe if I get a bonus this year...
Going to have to name that place "Walrus Draw" and "Squirrel Point" for subsequent hunts/stories. Congratulations to them, and props to you for bringing them along.
Resurrecting this thread for 2020 season....
We’ve watched this deer for the last 3 years. He was a "big" two the first year we saw him. As wide as his ears, and showed good potential, we thought. Since then, he’s never forked to be a 3 or a 4, and just gets more mass each year. This was the...
Great tutorial. We've always processed our own, as my family were meat cutters for 2 generations. However, it's only been in the last couple years that I've grown to appreciate cleaning the meat up as much as possible, like you're doing, and have found that the taste of the meat has improved...
Congrats on the bruiser, and the great shot(s)!--we've got our eye on a big ol' 2 point this year, too. Been around for 4 years now, and pretty beefy this year. Hope to connect with him tomorrow.
Yes--very minimal. Just like with any aftermarket stock, bedding it would be ideal, but in my experience, it's a drop-in fit. I like their stocks a lot.
I would think that you could get this done with a 270WSM built on a long action and an 8tw barrel. I don't know how much powder space the 175gr would eat up in a SAAMI 270WSM COAL, thus the long action. My Shilen-barreled 270WSM sure fits the bill for me right now, but the .277 Fury really...
Sure look like the same. The good thing there is that now you can shoot him, and have a good model for the taxidermist to look at and repair the broken drop-tine.
Good luck!
Yes, the vertical split rings can make it harder, in my experience. I don't know why, but it is easier to cause the scope to cant in vertical split rings as you snug them up. It just takes a little more tweaking, but once you get it right, it's a solid setup. A good set of bubble levels...
You might also get away with Low rings, too. I've mounted several 30mm tube scopes w/ 44mm objectives w/ low 30mm rings and pic rails, but they've been on Remington or Remington clones.
What an awesome adventure! Clue me in to where you found the animal beer, if you can. Haven't seen any around Billings, and surprisingly I've looked for it (albeit half-heartedly.)
