    Road hunters

Haha, sounds like our last cow elk hunt in WY. Put in about 13 miles that day in two different spots then close to sunset when scouting the next day's access points saw a herd about half a mile up the hill. Scooted up and my buddy made a great shot before losing shooting light. Little dicey...

    Best subcompact tractor

Most popular in the vineyards for heavy use was Kubota then New Holland. Often the NH was chosen only because they had an especially narrow tractor for 6’ rows. Heavy use meaning used often but still were small compared to grain farmers.

    Anyone considering the F150 Electric?

Well, Ford allows you to Build the F150 Lightning now. Turns out the Work Truck (“Pro”) model still starts at the $39k ish range but does not allow the option of extended battery. To get that option, literally the next step up is the XLT Lariat with a base price of $70k+. The extended...

    Dust elimination in truck topper

Not perfect but I added big rubber seals for the tailgate and duct taped all the holes I could find. Seemed to help a good bit. Also heard the bed rug works well.

MT - Changes in Hunting Regs/Units/Seasons coming this month

Anyone going to the Hamilton meeting tonight at 6?

MT - Changes in Hunting Regs/Units/Seasons coming this month

We can argue until we're blue in the face about what's a better way to manage the elk, tags, hunters, etc., but clearly the proposals have nothing to do with actual logic and reasoning. As incredibly knowledgeable as people are, I just don't see it helping our cause. It seems that we need to...

    Whats your daily driver?

This nimble, u-turn on a 22point dime trail runner baby! 2011 3/4 ton duramax, 220k miles Had some very painful maintenance a year or two ago when fuel pump grenaded and had to replace the whole fuel system. When body was off the frame did some preventative maintenance on head, new head...

Montana FWP makes seismic shift in elk permits

Hallelujah!! The hearing felt like a magic show when public looks one at one flashy, waving hand while the magician does his big switcharoo on the other. Hard to root out the core problem if we're focussed on a distraction. Happy to wait until next thread, but when the time is right... What...

MT - Changes in Hunting Regs/Units/Seasons coming this month

Thanks for spelling out the plan which I 100% agree with. I've seen initiatives rushed and then get dropped due a technicality in how was put together, losing serious momentum. If the new elk org will focus on a strategic build of grassroots support, fundraising and legislative groundwork then...

    Montana Citizens Elk Coalition Forming

Can someone in the know clarify or confirm if there is a lobbying focus of this org? Sorry if I missed in in my reading. There's certainly a big value in documenting proposals so politicians can't claim no pro-active policy has been presented. If lobbying and working full-time to generate...

MT - Changes in Hunting Regs/Units/Seasons coming this month

Of that, and many things, I am ignorant. I've seen this before though, that it takes such a tidal wave of almost unanimous testimony to simply slow or curb political decisions. People can rally a certain number of times until serious fatigue sets in. I guarantee that we can not sustain such...

    Montana Citizens Elk Coalition Forming

Love the idea of the coalition. I hope it can develop into something that can not only provide suggestions for Government decision makers, but actually gain an influence with them. I'm afraid that recent history has shown that reason, science and good ideas, no matter how valid, are not what's...

    MT ELK, Changing it up?

@BigFin I expect you've been slammed with a full hunting season, but wonder if by chance there's any progress on putting together a pro-active political organization as discussed before in the "Defense to Offense" thread? This beating we're taking seems like it's only getting worse without our...

"Day Hunt" pack - Ever regret not having overnight gear?

I get the insurance part, which is why I've always kept one in my pack. How many times have you actually used it when it was closer to a "need"?

"Day Hunt" pack - Ever regret not having overnight gear?

I like the idea of the woobie, but it's 1lb 15oz., so my 40 degree quilt about 1lb and probably warmer. It too is bulky and at least during archery elk when I'm not glassing much, it would only be for emergencies. I have brought a sleeping bag in cold late season day hunts purely for...

"Day Hunt" pack - Ever regret not having overnight gear?

So how many times have you been out on a "day hunt" and wish you had your overnight gear? I have heard of a number of guys packing light then for one reason or the other (ran into animals they wanted to stay close to or an animal down) and ended up spending a cold night in the mountains. How...

    Anyone considering the F150 Electric?

That's above my pay grade. Solar at home may make more sense then, but right now where I live the payback is way too long plus the power's already hydro mostly. In super high electric cost areas the payback is not so bad. I love the idea of being independent from the grid but imagine battery...

    Anyone considering the F150 Electric?

As Ben noted, increased credits may be coming, but even with existing ones there are some nice incentives as new trucks are so expensive in general nowadays. $7500 existing tax credit which may increase (per Ben's link) Possible accelerated depreciation (check w tax expert!) - since it's over...
