Depends on the state and species. WY will be up because everyone is worried about 90/10. Colorado will be flatter for deer due to the hype of season dates last year and the lack of mature deer that were found. I do think CO deer may see a shift from one unit to another based on last year. MT...
This is about as spot on as you come for the area. I have flown the area during hunting season and the elk are always in the same places, large ranches.
I have said it many, many times. Last years odds have no effect on this years drawing odds, none whatsoever. To calculate the expected odds you have to pay attention to all of the other factors. Magazines, winters, discussed changes to point system, economy, other state results, hunting...
Eric,
Do you cap each hunting district? or just have to pick one? You could have a draw with 4 seasons, each being a week long, the later hunts would be harder to draw. Just an idea.

I started out with nikon, moved to some baush and lomb, then Leica and now Swarosvki. I think if you are going to be in the game of hunting for 20-30 years they are worth the investment. Buy nice or buy twice rings a bell. I also think that if you can't feed your kids, you probably shouldn't...
Tax the rich people, that works really well in the real world. Once gas prices hit 6.00 a gallon, and the stock market and housing crash there will be a bunch of extra tags turned in so maybe it will work.

I am hoping for the same vigor and enthusiasm when Wyoming tries to limit DIY non-residents to just 10 percent of the licenses. What I have learned that its all about the DIY guy's and protecting their ability to get a tag? I learned a long time ago in Eastern Montana that the ranchers look at...
This is just my opinion, so take it as you will. There are lots of resources out there, fool, epic and GoHunt. Gohunt was the first group to start focusing on all hunts in a state, and not just trophy hunts. So they found a niche. in that there are a lot of folks who want to hunt waiting for...
So, do any of you DIY, anti-outfitters guys eat seafood? Because here in Oregon the big fight is between Native Americans, commercial fisherman and the DIY for the salmon, crab and other seafood quotas. Are you DIY guys going to jump on board with the DIY crowd in the NW to take away the...
I said that I didn't think what happened was right as I hunt Montana every year I can. I mention that in the 2nd paragraph and also talk about what politics really is these days. The future doesn't look good for opportunities.

Ranchers/Farmers are not the enemy of hunters. Lot's of posts about how much someone makes and the land that they own. I guess we should go with socialism and communism then, everybody gets a trophy and we all have the same pain. Do I wish I had a big ranch, sure, but do I begrudge those that...
This legislation will have an effect long term. More ground will be leased by outfitters as they will be able to guarantee a certain amount of hunters per year. In my opinion you will see the ground being enrolled in the block management begin to be reduced over time and transferred back to...
I am amazed at the hate for the outfitter on this website. I thought we lived in America where you could be an outfitter if that was your career choice, or be guided by an outfitter because that is the path that you want to take. Seems the cancel culture might be spilling over to hunters. To...
I am a consultant and get to pick when I am available. I made a deal that I won't be working during those months. It works for both of us as I didn't want to start a new career or work when it is hunting season. Just very fortunate to pull it off to be honest.

General or draw a unit doesn't change a darn thing if the amount of tags are the same. First thing that is needed is to get rid of all of the mule deer doe tags on public land. Can't have more deer killing all the females.
