    Which one.

30-06 - I’m actually switching from 7mm Mag to 30-06 for these reasons: Plenty of ammo options for any application Less expensive ammo I personally like the heavier bullet options As awesome as the 300WM is as an alternate to the 7mm Mag, with a 30-06 I can: Maintain sight picture better with a...

    .375 Ruger vs .375 H&H

Both will be effective. I believe the .375 Ruger has better ballistics but the .375 H&H is the .30-06 of dangerous game cartridges: historically effective and readily available. If you’re a reloader the .375 Ruger would be cool. It’s the parent case of the 300 PRC which gives it legs. If...

30-06 vs 300 WM in the real world?

Balls or strikes, and what speed do you need to pitch to last 7 innings? Of course, ideally you want your hunting rifle to be a fresh closer with 2 outs in the 9th...

The barrel to the action. The barrel is often very crooked in the stock - I’ve seen it myself on a couple - and feedback from others is they needed to have the barrel rethreaded onto the action. I just needed mine bedded.

Accuracy advantages of lead free bullets?

I picked up factory Nosler E-Tip 180gr 30-06 ammo. I haven’t shot it yet and I’m very interested to see how it does, especially with the understanding the all copper bullets will be the lead-length equivalent of ~200gr. My ‘06s have 1:10 twist. I know it is very rifle dependent and I picked...

I think you’re right, action and/or barrel from Japan (Howa) but I’m not sure beyond that. U.S. company nonetheless....

I really like my 700AWR, 30-06 but 7mm also would be awesome. BUT you may need to take it to a gunsmith out of the gate for bedding or rethreading.

    Scope question

I’ve lived in WI all my life and hunt both here and open country out west. My first scope was a Leupold VX-1 3-9x40 (great all around magnification), but I switched to Vortex after learning they are a WI company. So, my all-around go-to now is a Vortex Razor HD LH 2-10x40 (I also use a...

    Which is the better glass?

My favorite tool when I hunt out west are my Vortex Viper HD 10x42 nockers. I'm not saying Vortex is better than Zeiss, I honestly don't know, but I do know 10x42s work great for me in open country. Note I don't sit for long glassing sessions, and if I need more magnification I use my spotting...

    New .270 for Alaska?

Bergara rifles are fantastic value and their B-14 Wilderness Rifles are cerakoted for extra durability, but chambering offerings look to be more limited than the standard B-14 Series - no 270 nor 30-06
