Personal biase of the shop does have a lot to do with it. Shop size dictates what suppliers they use and whether those suppliers carry the model. Also, popularity determines how many the manufactor makes and which areas they go. You may not be able to get your hands on the exact gun, rather look...
I wouldn't bother with those areas, I've killed birds in both but they are few and far between. When I lived in Bozeman I always went to Big Timber. Find water and cottonwoods, knock on farm doors, go to the bars/diners and just ask. Nobody cares about turkey's, you'll get some found this way.
No deer. Regs last year prevented shooting does in a lot of units, perhaps all of 5. This year same deal. I've heard as much as 40% decline in numbers. I wouldn't make the trek and pay the nr prices for this. Total mismanagement of the seasons, number of permits, prices, etc.
I wouldnt bother changing out your rig unless you can use more foc. I prefer 12-15% with a broadhead so perhaps you could bump up. Otherwise, know your shots and range and go hunt.
Victorinox paring knives. They are cheap, lightweight, sharp, and easy to keep sharp. I started using these after seeing a bunch of taxi's using them. Can whip out an entire elk without having to touch the blade. I like nice blades, but these little guys are money.
I agree it's to small for elk, if you try to fit the whole thing at once. I've packed out lots of elk with it, deer on one pack. Had mine know for about 6 yrs, zipper heads are finally breaking. Send in and the fix it, lifetime warranty. But, packs are a personal thing. Lots to choose from.
Badlands 2200; I use this pack all the time. Can carry more than I need, pack meat, good price, acceptable size and weight, high quality. You won't be disappointed.
The angled is best in the field but you will probably prefer the straight more when at the range, in the vehicle, at home, etc. I would still go for the binos, vortex viper hd's, that run right at 600.
Screw the spotter, get a nice pair of 10x42 binos. Vortex are a good choice. For glassing, use your bow. Put a primos sling on the bow, you'll want this anyways, then use your bow as a monopod. The sling protects the cam from dirt, debris and you rest the binos on the top cam. You can rest your...
I also use the talleys, just make sure you don't have to scrunch down to get a full image. The smaller, lighter guns just don't sit as will at the range, then frustration builds up and it all goes to hell. I would power clean the rifle, ensure everything is torqued down to proper specs, the...
I've got a great wall tent and camper, but most of the time I use a Frabil 6 man ice shack. Goes up super quick, very stable. Can fit two cots with lots of room for coolers and gear. Put down carpet, hang a lantern, big buddy heater and your set. Camp is up and down in 10.
