It does. I'm kinda kicking around the idea of going back in late summer to hopefully get a closer look. I combined this trip with a bit of "casual" bear hunting. Saw two, one of them blonde, which was a first for me. No shot though. Might go during fall season and try a little harder to get one...
It takes more green wood to produce X number of BTU's than seasoned wood since you're basically using some of the heat energy to "season" the rest of the wood so that it can burn. It will burn slower (although not that much slower with an airtight system) but it will output less heat while...
Pretty sure 30 cords would be on the high end of the spectrum for those. My mom uses one for her place. She has a bed and breakfast that's around 5000 sq. ft. Uses it for heat and hot water and burns around 12-15 cords a year. Certainly far less efficient than an indoor stove. People often point...
Well, I went and checked it out. Pretty country. Some serious snow up there still and unfortunately, when I got close, it was obscured by fog. As it was I was probably pushing it getting even to that point. It was real tricky going in some areas and I was alone, so didn't want to press my luck...
True, but practically speaking, I've only got a limited amount of hunting days anyway and I can pretty much pick when I use them. I'm thinking my chances of bagging an elk are greater with a rifle than with a bow, given the same number of hunting days.
It's a tough call. I'm a meat hunter first, recreation second. My primary consideration is what method gives me the highest chances of success. Back in Ohio, red meat for my family came exclusively from hunting. I normally killed 3-5 deer per year and we never bought beef. I intend to do the...
Hadn't heard of him before now, but I'll do that. Not exactly sure on the glass. I'm partial to Leupold products in general, but I'm open to suggestions.
I'm in North Idaho, so often thicker timber and shorter ranges than is typical in a lot of the west, although I do hope to do more hunting down south in the future, probably primarily spot and stalk. Majority rifle hunting with maybe a little archery. I'm new to western hunting in general...
I've got a pair of compact, 8x32 binoculars, but would like a more powerful pair. Problem is, I'd also like a good range finder. Eventually intend to have both but need to decide which takes priority. For the experienced Western hunters on here, given a $500ish budget, which would you take if...
I started this thread to get a question answered. I think I've got an answer. Clearly some folks are extraordinarily passionate about this particular subject. I'm out. 👍
Not trying to change your mind. I'm trying to figure out what you're saying. Do you, or do you not think that a gun that will discharge without the trigger being pulled should be taken out of service?
I'm not sure exactly what you're arguing for. Do you disagree that the weapons you mentioned in your post should not be used till they're repaired? Are you saying that a person should continue to use a weapon that will fire without the trigger being pulled? Yes, any mechanical device will...
No. Everything mechanical CAN fail, not will. A gun that fires without the trigger being pulled should immediately be taken out of service until it's fixed.
