I find a lot of guys will spend money on decent weapons and gear, pay for trips, out of state licenses, etc., yet they won't spend any time at a range with their gun / bow and they wind up wounding and losing, or completely missing game.
I use a diamond stone, then coarse, followed by smooth steels. Learn to use sharpening steels and keep your knives touched up as you work and they rarely get too dull.
For stuff like kitchen knives in the house that don't get much attention, I will run them all thru the worksharp electric tool...
Isn't this exactly what you buy a camper for?
I've pulled a camper and used a motorhome to pull a jeep from IN to WY many times. Biggest downside, is that you can't get as far back in off the main roads using a camper, like you can tent camping, hauling everything in a 4wd truck. Campers are...
Several years ago when I killed a deer and recovered the arrow in good shape I simply cleaned it up, put a sharp broadhead on it, and put it back in my quiver. I would write on the plastic fletching with a sharpie 2015 IN buck, or something like that. With two sides to every fletch...
I think Vortex is just kind of middle of the road type stuff, nothing wrong with it, but it's not anything special either.
However, it seems to be the currently most advertised, most promoted brand of optics over the last few years so they have developed a bit of a following. Kind of...
I've shot a whole bunch of deer with Cor-Lockts as well as a bunch of other big game and they do the job every time if you put the bullet in the right spot.
Have also found that they group very well in most of my rifles.
I've owned Honda, Polaris and Suzuki and they have all been good machines. Currently running a Honda 400 Rancher.
I would stick with something close to the 400 cc range as these machines are still light enough that you can wrestle them around a little.
The big 700cc stuff is too darned...
I'm 60 and live in Indiana. When we were kids deer were few and far between, people traveled out west or to places like Michigan or Wisconsin to hunt deer. First started seeing a few around home in the early 70's and we started hunting in 73'. That first season (2 weeks firearms) I saw 7...
Don't get pigeon holed in on one species such as deer or elk and you can hunt from September thru January for something without too much difficulty.
Nothing stopping anyone from hitting a neighboring state either.
I've got a Remington 700 .222 I picked up about 25 years ago in the used rack at an old gun store for $260. It had an old Redfield scope on it, brought it home and first shot was only about 2" off at 100 yards, a little adjustment and was good to go. Since then I've had trigger adjusted...
Very cool, thanks for sharing.
The old guy I used to run rabbit hounds with was a WW2 vet, spend 8 months in Germany as a POW and said he was 85lbs when the Allies freed them, he's been gone about 10 years.
Cut my teeth working in my early years around a whole bunch of WW2 and Korean vets...
I bought a general contracting company with two partners from the owner in 84' and my partners and I recently sold it to several of our key managers.
It was the best financial decision of my life getting in, and a very good deal also (for all parties) when I got out.
The value in companies like...
Just did a trip to southern Alabama deer and hog hunting. Weather conditions were crap, it had been raining quite a bit and rained off and on while we were there.
The guy that took us hunting had an old beat up 94 Suburban all stock except it had oversize Buckshot Wide Mudder tires. I was...
I do lots of traveling, but home will always be home. Hard to put a value on living where you grew up at around long time friends, family, etc.
You can travel extensively to enjoy other parts of the world, but it's still good to have home base. Will probably become more important as we get older.
I've got two of those little Coleman butane stoves I'm pretty happy with. They pack in a small case, real hot flame, spark ignition, and just very handy.
The fuel cylinders look like a can of spray paint. Gordons Foods sells the replacement cylinders, I get 3-4 hours of cooking each.
Plus...
Been lucky so far, have only had the spare tire stolen off my boat trailer one time.
I know of a group of guys from my hometown that took a western trip and overnighted at a motel in Wall SD. When they got up in the morning, someone had unhooked and stolen the enclosed trailer that was hooked...
