Didn't draw in KS this year and my outfitter pretty quickly returned my payment. I had him keep 50% as deposit for next year which will help him out and he will hold my hunt price the same.
Covid shut down our Canada fishing trip, and the outfitter up there pretty quickly returned the deposit.
Quit sitting on you hands, make a damn decision.
If you screw up, you'll just have to figure out how to fix it, but at least you are taking action and moving forward.
My best advice would be; save all you can, get all of your debt cleaned up, then do a detailed budget to try and figure out what your spending will be.
I walked away from work about 3.5 years ago at 57. We are debt free and lived debt free for probably the final 10-15 years of my career...
We've got about 230 acres of pretty prime whitetail habitat at our IN place that we monitor and manage pretty well. Got an unpleasant surprise one morning this week while touring the perimeter. Laying right beside the road at one end was a great big velvet buck with a 50%+ rack developed...
Doing a bucket list fishing trip in a couple weeks. Flying about 250 miles west of Anchorage via float plane to a remote lodge, then going out on daily excursions to various lakes and rivers to fish for; species of salmon, char, grayling, pike, sheefish, trout, etc. Taking my son in law...
I was an industrial general contractor my entire career and recognize the value a good contractor brings to a project. We own two out of state properties, one was built from scratch, the other has seen quite a bit of remodeling. If I don't already have a relationship, here is how I do it...
My thoughts also.
We've got a gut about ten doors don from our lake house that has a float plane. Mo more than he flys the thing, it's not bothersome at all. Also pretty neat to watch in my opinion.
My target shooting neighbors are for sure more of a pain in the rear. They always decide to...
I can't live without a topper to keep things locked up and dry on all of the road trips we do. Last two have been ARE brand with no complaints. Just picked up a new Silverado and went to my ARE dealer to order one. He wanted $3,000 and said 12 weeks delivery. Talked to a buddy who had...
Myself and a buddy both got blanked by KS this year, while two of our buddies got their tags.
First time I've not been drawn in KS in about ten years of hunting there.
Usually all day to get to AK, overnight in Anchorage or Fairbanks, then bush plane out to outfitter next day. When you return, bush plane from outfitter to city, overnight in city, then fly home next day. Two days on each end of the hunt. Also- It's never a bad idea to stay an extra day...
I see a lot of these fire pits with 12" - 18" perimeter walls of steel, stone or bricks. While those look nice, and keep the fire contained your feet and lower legs are cold when sitting around them as they don't get any of the radiant heat. Something down at ground level or a shallow...
I had beagles for 25 years. Typically kept 2-3 all the time and at one time we had as many as ten. Had a great old timer hunting buddy that wheeled and dealed dogs all the time so we were always trying out a new one. For some reason, my interest started leaning more heavily towards deer...
I'm 61 and hunt more than ever. Got the real hard core physically difficult hunts done earlier in life and now mostly just shoot lots of deer. I can have great whitetail hunting and a lot more days of hunting, in multiple states for the price of one AK trip or big time western trip. We're...
I retired (3) years ago at 57, no pension or anything like that, just what we were able to save and invest.
We make enough income so that we are ineligible for any discounts (over $68k), so our ACA health insurance for spouse and I runs $1450 per month.
Health insurance is something you really...
We've hauled dozens of deer, elk and hogs in the big 120 qt Coleman and Igloo inexpensive coolers with no issue. I throw bags of ice on the bottom, then put a light metal shelf rack on top of the ice bags, quarters and pieces on top of that. Rack keeps meat out of the water. Drain the water...
Hope your cecision works out.
It's been my experience that the tankless water heaters do not last as long as tank type, they also cost a whole lot more. Only reason I would install one is if I had space constraints or wanted hot water a real long way away from anything else.
Around here life...
The deer camp thing was something I never had growing up and something that I envied. We just drove out to the farm and went deer hunting for the morning or afternoon. Not the same as taking off for a week or more totally dedicated to deer hunting. I did get exposed to some western hunts...
