I come home empty handed many more times than I come home with game, so "sport" and just getting outdoors, unplugged, in the elements and away from people and things are the primary reasons. Having said that, we really relish the harvest and eating wild game is pretty special, and needs to be...
I don't recommend gift cards. They tend to get stuck in a drawer or on a counter somewhere, forgotten about and not used.
Get to know your landowner and get them something that shows you put some personal thought into it.
Congrats !
I'd recommend Alaska also if you can swing the cost. It's part of the US, so no travel restrictions, and easy to get tags for about anything you want. If you have the time and money, many outfitters can work out a combo hunt for two or more species, possibly some fishing too...
Nice boat, I've had a couple like that.
+1 For getting the biggest outboard it will handle (probably 15-25hp) and go with electric start.
Decent fish finder.
Swivel seats mounted on the benches.
Front and rear anchors
Set of oars
Note - With small boats like that, I don't think a trolling motor...
That's a great story, have read it several times.
I'd probably carry a scoped .300 mag, bolt action with sights on the barrel, if the scope got dinged. I like wood stocks.
Would also carry a .22 pistol for grouse, etc.
Biggest thing you need is an open work space and a big table top work surface at the right height. All of the folding tables are at standard table height which is too low to stand up and work at. I built a 30" wide x 10' long tall height table for such with a plywood top. We simply cover...
Here's a pic of our hunting / fishing camp in southern IL. Been deer hunting the area for many years, several years ago bought some ground and built a real nice pole barn cabin. It's finished out nice with heat & AC, woodstove, full kitchen and bath, two bedrooms, big open living / dining...
Nice fish, congrats !
We vertical jig Lakers all summer on Grand Traverse Bay, Lake Michigan in depths of 100' or more.
Putt putt along real slow watching the fish finder till we see a few, then hit the anchor lock feature on trolling motor to hold you there. Typically toss out 1/2 oz or...
Lots of these are available in the gun shops in Indiana. We went from shotguns only to all centerfire's several years ago and most folks have mothballed or gotten rid of their slug guns. Could also find quite a few in Illinois and Iowa where shotguns are still required.
Best slug gun going...
Recently returned from an interior Alaska fishing trip with my son in law. We fished the Kuskoskwim and Holitna (spelling probably wrong) rivers and tributaries for six days. Caught; king salmon, pike, sheefish, grayling and arctic char. Can't wait to go again :p
Browsing the gun shops I've become interested in one of these little rectangular or square glass sights that mounts approx. where rear sight would be, and has a little illuminated dot you put on the target. They look pretty compact and durable and like you could get them on target real quick...
That's good ..........
If improving habitat, providing security cover, providing some food & water sources, letting the deer multiply and get some age structure, then running a few trail cams to keep an eye on what is out there is unsporting, then I'm guilty as charged.
Guess I could do like...
