Mackinac Island doesn't do much for me, kinda tourist trappy. Lots of neat sights to see in that area along Lake Michigan from Traverse City, clear up to the bridge. You won't have any trouble finding a good restaurant, there are many in TC, Charlevoix, Petoskey and many of the little towns...
We lease 280 acres of great IL ground. Have had the place for nine years and just re-upped a three year extension. That ground is probably worth $1.2 mil.
Our annual lease cost is about $6k. Who cares that we will never own it? It's pretty inexpensive when split several ways, gets us...
Current tractor is a Deere, previous was a New Holland. Both have the shuttle on steering column, much like a backhoe. I've got a Deere garden tractor with foot pedal shuttle for forward and reverse and don't really care for it.
A 25hp tractor with a loader and other gadgets is pretty much a toy. Not big enough to get much work done, just fun to play around on.
I've owned Deutz Allis, New Holland and Deere brand units 28-85hp. If you want to get any kind of work done, bigger is better, I wouldn't go any less than...
I have hunted Illinois for over 20 years as a non resident, going through an outfitter was how I got started. Think I did 5-6 guided & semi guided hunts and never killed a deer, however I did see a few dandies' that kept my interest peaked in the area. After that I started leasing ground and...
I retired at 57 four years ago. A big consideration pre Medicare age is the cost of private health insurance which is purchased through ACA Affordable Care Act / Obamacare. For 18 months post retirement we were able to stay on company insurance via COBRA and pay the full amount which was...
Sako makes some real nice bolt action .22's.
I like the Ruger 77-22 also, have the old boat paddle stock stainless one and a blued walnut version as well.
This stuff is all too common. Saw a bunch of buzzards working and found a gut shot doe on our place yesterday.
I set my stands a fair distance from property lines to avoid the scenario of my deer going to the neighbors whenever possible.
Have also seen "line sitters" on many occasions hunt...
Looks great.
I've built a couple on our properties as well. Lots of fun, plus attracts lots of wildlife.
Note - Beware of otters, they will will decimate a stocked pond.
Can't always rely on cold weather so we typically get the deer broken down into quarters and big pieces, then into a 120 qt cooler on ice right away. Can then take your time deboning, butchering, and processing over the course of a a couple evenings if necessary. A sawzall is nice for...
There are a few good ones, but I've found that poor service and general better than thou snobbery runs wide and deep in bow shops, marinas and ATV's stores.
This is a common problem in the midwest and nothing new. Also doesn't help that clean farming and development have scraped clean and eliminated much of the huntable habitat that once was. I saw this stuff coming a long time ago and sacrificed to buy land. Myself and a couple buddies also...
Do it almost every year, never had a problem. Quarter things up and put them in the cooler on ice. Occasionally drain the water and add a little ice if necessary. As long as a week on ice wouldn't worry me.
