Texas moves to a cubed loyalty point system

Ha, yeah, I'm not too serious about that. Those folks with alot of points, who have been committed to applying and hopeful all of these years, I hope they draw and have great hunts! And it will be me on some at some point, and you too if you stay in the game. And, over time, there will be a...

Texas moves to a cubed loyalty point system

Thanks for posting this, I didn't know this was happening. Texas' system has its flaws for sure. My biggest problem is that we actually have A LOT of public land that has very poor quality hunting. Take pronghorn, there is only one place those hunts are offered publicly but there are hundreds...

    Sage grouse in the interim?

When I was a kid I read, and have many times since, in The Ted Trueblood Hunting Treasury about his sage grouse, pronghorn combo trips in Wyoming, and I have been dreaming about that trip ever since! I'll finally do one in a few years when my kids get just a little older to take along, and I've...

    2020 Texas controlled hunts

I'd like to see Texas do what so many other states have done, either require a hunting license to be bought before non-residents can apply, though this would require alot of retooling of the current licensing system, or simply to charge non residents a higher application fee. Then this...

    Teddy Coming Down

That's how I took it. It would be good if they just commissioned and a placed a new statue with Roosevelt and those flanking him in a way that doesn't seem likes he's subjugating them, as the argument goes.

    Lubbock, TX Dove Hunting

Can't say about Lubbock for sure, it ought to be good if its good elsewhere. Last year was tough most places in north Texas. In normal years, driving just an hour or two more southeast gets you around Haskell and such, which can be great. I believe the Lubbock area does have some public dove...

    Apartment bird dog

I'd recommend a Brittany, maybe even a French Brittany. Other dogs could be great too but Brittanies are my experience. I'd had one in an apartment and he did well. We did have to walk him a lot, multiple potty walks a day and my wife and I both ran, so he got that almost every day. And we...

    Bison

Great story and pics! I am daydreaming about borrowing my uncle's Sharps and getting my cowboy cousins to bring their horses, you know, when I draw this tag cause surely that's gonna happen....!

Running two dogs on one controller

I just added a collar to my Dogtra Pathfinder system, I like how it works. You do have to switch over in the app to the other dog, but that keeps me in check, keeps me watching which dog is looking to need a little Edison medicine. The time it takes to switch gives me a chance to give some...

    Earth Day

We just joined Quail Forever and the kids are going to do an "advocacy" project on behalf this afternoon, after school work completed of course! And you are right on this Rona, can't wait to get back out there, whether public land or our place (don't want to travel, its a ways) and do...

    Earth Day

"The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time to plant a tree is today." Chinese proverb Anyone doing anything for habitat? My son wants to plant a tree and my daughter wants to pick up trash in the park. Maybe to the first, but I don't really want to go to the store...

Green Energy Development to see the light?

Yeah, when I hear population control as an environmental measure, I always think of Tom Clancy's book Rainbow Six, awesome read and game. I have to admit, the vision of the guys trying to drastically reduce the population for wildlife's benefit gives me fantasies of quails and sharptails and...

Green Energy Development to see the light?

Interesting, thanks for posting. I couldn't get the page to load right so I only caught the jist of the article, but I agree that this gets us thinking about the next evolution of energy and its net affects. There does seem to be more and more talk about a balancing of a number of issues, i.e...

Who to talk to in Colorado

Thanks for those maps and info guys, that's very helpful. I didn't know if there were specific game bird biologists too, as some states have. As for the info, just trying to narrow the search and up the learning curve as much as I can. I've seen them every time while big game hunting, but...

Who to talk to in Colorado

Everyone says its a good idea to talk to the area or species biologist when you go on an out of state hunt, but I can't seem to figure out how to find out who that is for my next falls dusky grouse hunt in Colorado. How can I find this out, is there a database or something? I've tried googling...

    Rookie needs some advice

Man, that's a classic and beautiful turkey spot! And I meant to say, if you can help calling, cause it is so awesome to hear them respond, you might try to just keep it light and subtle. In the evening, a lot of times, they will come in silently.
