moosie I think i can find one or two around somewhere I`m booked through oct  and I have to get the ponys veted to take them into wyo.. might can do though
geeze elky.. If I go one one more trip ghostrider will have me stuffed.BUT its only two hours away.. this might be fun.. when do u think u might be going november?? after the good snow??
hi steve.. I know those units pretty well. most of the elk are migratory elk from montana. there are some local herds but there kinda scattered around... are u on foot? atv? horses (best choice)...
Well we just got back from a scouting trip.. and I think we found are hunting spot for this year… rode for 2 days.. saw over 100 head of elk…with lots of bulls.. most were dinks.. but the good ones will be around somewhere.. I hope.. the trail in is a piece of crap though.. that’s why the elk...
d.s& elky.. i just put a tape on those hobbles and their 42 inchs plus 2 2inches rings so the total would be somewhere around 46 inches. they work great on horses that know how to move in a 2-way
BUT.. d.s if your horses are not real used to the 2-ways the 3-way might just cause u a bigger...
D.S.. I tried to post a pic of a 3-way hobble here... but it would`nt post. it worked in the test spot...wtf.???anyway there`s a pic there if ya need one.
try moving your ponys further away from camp you`ll sleep better.. their way to noisy for me :D :D
DS.. it just kinda depends on where I`m at when we stop for the night ..if I`m going to be there for a few days then I do the fence thing.. if I`m leaveing the next day then i use hobbles so they can eat. but i still tie at least one up (use the leader) for the night.. as far as the horses...
jimmyD..FYI.. A case of beer weights 25 pounds..so one horse can carry about 8 cases just enough for one week..
p.s put it one your best pony.. don`t want to lose it :D
DS...Your too funny... it`s not a half cinch..it`s called a LASH cinch.. and if your totin that much stuff and not useing one it should`nt be to long till u start.. ...
p.s.. 1000 pound horse..is kinda small for a average horse... what are u pack`in on lamas??? :D :D
My normal pannier runs between 175 and 200 pounds..and as high as 250 for short distances...but it seems the the heavyer the pack the more it wants to slip or roll so the balance is more inportant. keep the weight low and use lash cinch
roper :D
Without knowing exactly where your sources are directing you i don't know if i can help. 36b doesn't seem like a large area while looking at a map but when your there you may spend an entire day on one ridge. We hunted there last year and saw several groups of smaller animals but no wallhangers...
Sounds fun to me but i'd like to wait...i've got a new p.c. on it's way but it won't be here till the first week of december. Don't want to be halfway thru something and have to start over...
Roper
couldn`t get that week off.(something about being in the middle of some hunting season called archery??) anyhow no time :( :( hope ya have to deal with a packout problem :D :D .. good luck... if ya get in a spot give me a ring..
well the answer is clear now... we need to get my boys to do the packin because we will be too snockered to get anything done :D :D and they don`t drink..(i hope) so we won`t have to split there share :D :D
hmmm ok...try this one... oscar goes on a elk hunt.. kills big bull 10 miles into the back country...calls roper to bring the ponys up to help get elk out... buys roper 20 beers...(1 per mile in and out) :D for all the trouble....well maybe a case just to keep it even.....outfitting????
