Thank you very much gentlemen! Very good ideas! Gato, I have thought about the horse walker idea before, but have never tried it. I think I will see about getting or building one, great idea.
My kennels are about 50 yards from my house, so I am thinking I might see about rigging up a...
Thanks for the responses guys! Great information. George, I think you got this figured out! I will try a little of all the ideas see what works. Thanks again! BTW, has anyone tried this gizmo that Redbone is talking about? Sounds interesting.

George P,
Great seeing hound pictures again!! Makes me want to get out with the dogs again. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I will be scouting and hunting bighorn and getting camps set up and ready for elk season so I probably won't be able to get out with the hounds until late October. I...
I don't get to work my dogs much during the summer months and when they are not worked they sure do alot of barking at night. My kennels are right behind my house and they have been driving me crazy lately, barking most of the night. I have tried the no-bark collar and it works good on the dog...
George,
I would have to say mine are:
#1 Matches, firestarter, food
#2 Tracking collars
#3 Firearm and ammo.
Great topic, kinda makes you think. I do most of my hunting in the mountains, so matches and food are alot more important to me than locator collars.
Tobey,
No, I don't know Tuck. You may have me confused with someone else, I am from NM. Sounds like you guys have lots of bears and a great area for it. Maybe someday we can trade a hunt?? lol I go bear hunting there, you come lion hunting here??
Dang!! Don't you guys have e-mail????
Just kidding. All this talk about bear hunting is getting me pumped. I will be helping the G&F here on a lion tagging project all summer. I will be hunting 8-10 days a month June through September. Any of you guys are welcome to come out and "hunt"...
I think you are right George. When we used to have a spring season, those bears were HARD to tree! In the fall it's not as bad, but they are still harder to tree than cats.
Josh,
The answer is not often enough!! During the season I try to get out 1-2 times a week. During the off season, I am lucky if I get them out 1-2 times a month. This summer it looks like I will be able to get them out more often, supposed to hunt 8-10 days per month. I'm looking forward...
Clint,
Great topic! I do not think I would have proceeded to the area with that many shots being fired. Whenever presented with the type of situation you described, I have avoided the immediate area, but I will sometimes circle the area to see if the shooters don't run something out to us.

Desert Sheep,
Great story!! I can hardly wait until I draw a sheep tag. We have some great sheep here in NM, if you can you ought to apply. Thanks for sharing the story.
Desert Sheep,
First of all, welcome to HuntandLodge! It is great to have new hunters here, especially sheep hunters. I have not been lucky enough to draw a sheep tag yet (after 15 years of trying) but I get to go on a sheep hunt every year by guiding hunters here in NM.
Moosie is right, that...
Hntrjohn,
I am sure you are right about the description. There are many different opinions of what exactly constitutes a full curl. Some people say that for a ram to be a full curl, the tip of the horn has to reach the bridge of the nose. Others describe it the way I did. It is kind of like...
Dan,
A full curl is when the horn reaches an imaginary line from the front of the base of the horn through the center of the eye. If the horn is past that imaginary line, it is more than a full curl. The two rams that are standing are full curl. The one laying down is a bit longer than full...
