You don't have to get all those tags at one time ... a little planning and you can get them as you need them, kinda thing.
No need to learn all the regs. It's a big state lots of different regs for different areas, just narrow it down to the area you will be hunting. It's really not as...
The border closure is not screwing just a few individuals ... the people of Skagway & Hyder are not doing well. My good friend's business in Hyder is toast.
Anyone flying into Ketchikan should keep an eye out on their news. They are possibly having an issue and are saying they might shut down again.
Hunkering Down
Maybe the Ircinrraaq, Enukins or Ignaugalurauks .... talked Fred into walking or he went to live with them.
Griggs did your father ever speak of the little supernatural people that live in the caves ?
The ferry wage / contract issues were not the reason the run was canceled. It's a US Homeland security issue about having armed guards at the border. This was in addition to a few other issues and then the Corona came along.
The AK Governor pretty much was successful in killing the system. The...
There are currently no ferry runs out of Prince Rupert into Alaska. They canceled that run last year. Also the Canadian border is closed except for essential travel.
If they start a run from there again it is a very nice trip. I have made it quite a few times. I don't know if it would save you...
Might have ... I use to be a lot more active on the hunting blog boards ... than I am now.
Hope you have a little drier weather, than you have had, before the fall weather sets in. The fish should have plenty of water this season ... good luck on your upcoming Deer hunts. It'll be hear before...
Welcome ... I got a homestead lot back in the early 80's at Hollis. Lived out there a lot of years. Guided fishing and hunting on the Island and over in the Misty. Moved down on the Oregon coast now. Still have the Hollis place and am going to put it up for sale if you know anyone looking.
SE Alaska is a big place ... if your going to hunt Prince of Wales Is or that general area you would fly into Ketchikan ... same goes for Wrangell & Petersburg, they all have jet ports. If your going to hunt Admiralty Is or Douglas Is areas then you would use the Juneau jet port.
POW Island is...
I would say 60 give or take for the high temps and 50 give or take as the low temps ... Sept use to be a rainy month, not as rainy as Oct but wet. But in the last few years it has been very dry in Sept ....
Also with the new weather it is harder to plan your clothing needs. During May the last 3 years it has been very dry and spells of very warm weather. In 2018 mid May had a week of 70 to 80 degree sunny days. May 2019 was very little rain and some hot days as well.
I was saying chest waders are hot, to me that is ... mainly when hiking the rivers and uplands in fall or even in spring. Traveling or sitting in a skiff glassing can be cold. May weather can be from one extreme to the other. Freezing rain or 70+ sunny degrees.
Seems like in recent years, with...
Waders are hot .... Sept is not cold but could be very wet. Hip boots are probably worn by more Bear hunters than chest waders. Many guys use the stiff rubber waders but I have always liked the softer kind. This last time around I went with the ...
Using USGS topo maps will require you to buy several different maps, usually. You can cut that down by concentrating on a small area, to hunt.
Even with maps, if you don't use a GPS, make sure to use some flagging tape.
Most of SE Ak has been reopened for over the counter tags for non-residents. The areas that are still remaining in the draw is unit #2 POW Island; part of unit #1 mainland south of Juneau; and parts of unit #3 Kuiu and Kupreanof Islands. Those are the easier accessed (some roaded) areas.
There...
Bear hunting in S SE is good from late April into June ... you can be selective and get a non-rubbed Bear even in June. There are early risers that will be rubbed even in early May. There will be late sleepers that will have good hides in June. And there are some Bear that rub while in the den...
Look at OzzyDave's attachment pic. Take note of the front lower leg bone and how it points right to the heart. That's your shot. When finding the point don't find the top of the bear and sight down .. find the bottom, behind the front leg, and come up. The chart that wllm1313 posted up also...
