I live right in the middle of that big burn area and we had snow last night that stuck! Your best bet for this area is going to be the last two weeks of May. Prior to that it's pretty sketchy. Good luck.
YES, for Archery or General season an over the counter tag is all you need for archery or rifle (you will need to also purchase an archery endorsement on your license). It only gets complicated if you want to hound hunt in one of the special districts which are by drawing.

Grizzlies are definitely out, I cut fresh tracks in the snow yesterday in the Yaak and a guy got hammered by one north of Kalispell on Sunday. I have not seen any Black bear tracks in several weeks.
It looks like I'm a week or two late on finding this post. I certainly appreciate your enthusiasm but can tell you that there is no shortcut when specifically targeting wolves. They are hands-down the most difficult animal in North America to consistently Harvest.
I live right in the middle of...
It sounds like you are off to a good start. Just taking them camping is great practice for staying on a high line or being snubbed to a tree for a few hours. Shop carefully for a quality scabbard that will fit your rifle/scope combo. That has always been my biggest issue and bought several to...
