I think they can see very well and when they are above you they have a perfect vantage point to look in on you. We started building a roof for our blind out of 6 " concrete remesh and weaving tree limbs through it and found the ducks were much more willing to fly over the blind than they had...

I have seen the same thing happen with mallards, also seen them swim under the ice and die. I don't think we ever had a beaver or turtle take a duck but where we hunted we did have bald eagles and hawks take downed ducks. We had one hawk try to fly off with a teal decoy once, he couldn't...
I used to hunt with a guy that felt "got three shells, shoot three shells".
His trips ended with us after he called me one night to tell me that he had killed 2 geese but couldn't tell what kind they were but they had just watched him pull his boat up to shore and shoot them. When he described...

Shoot hens - Not on purpose, we stopped shooting them back in the dark days when 1 hen meant your day was over, I guess it wasn't all that noble a gesture on our part because we just wanted to shoot more (this was back when I hadn't been duck hunting very long). But I think it also made us more...

How far off the lands did you seat the bullets and what grain B.T. did you use? I have a supply of 50 grainers but I thought I would drop to 45 or maybe even 40.
Santa got me a 21" .22 Hornet carbine barrel for my Contender. I am going to shoot it some and see how the brass holds to reloading. If it seems to be as hard on brass as I have heard of I will send it in to be turned into a K-Hornet. Does anyone have any experience with the Hornet, what are...
It is hard to explain in words but here goes, we would usually set the Canadas in a line (not exactly one behind the other but kind of scattered) angling out on the downwind side of the blind. We stopped the geese approximately 10 yds. from the point we wanted them to land in front of the...
We usually used less duck decoys but would throw in more Canada floaters, we also removed all the snow geese from the spread. It seems that the ducks didn't like to fly over the snows but would trail right down the Canadas.
Pay attention to the way the birds react to your calling, most times we would leave the Halloween horns at home and use softer grunt type calls like the duck commander later in the season. After being hammered hard all season, they can become extremely call shy.
I use Lyman TufNut and then crushed corn cob (untreated). The TufNut has Jeweler's rouge in it and will definitely polish the brass. After I use the TufNut, I tumble in corn cob for about 15 mins. to remove the rouge from the cases. I don't know if this is necessary but I hate to have red...
A load that my Super 14 Contender really likes is 16 grs. of IMR 4227 and a 55 gr Ballistic tip. When I do my part this load will put 3 shots touching each other from my pistol at 100 yds. A friend of mine used this load several years ago and really had good luck with it also. I tried W748...
