    Ducks and Geese

Yooper I have had mine (the Reacher Model I think but I will check tonight when I get home) for around 15 years now and have only replaced the reeds twice. It had plenty of volume, but you could still make soft sounds with it when the birds get call shy in late season. They aren't as loud as...

    Danr55, I got the 25 gr. .224 bullets

I don't have a triple deuce, but I am going to try them in my .223 Contender, will let you know. He does list them in his reloading "manual" for a .223 at 4,050 fps and for the .222 at 3,850 fps.

    Danr55, I got the 25 gr. .224 bullets

I received the 25 gr. .224 bullets in the mail on 07/06 but I haven't got to shoot them yet, but on initial inspection, I am not impressed. I do not want to slam a bullet manufacturer without cause, but there appears to be quite a few dimples or dents in the jacket material. While I am not...

    Snow goose recipes?

I breast them out and put a slice of salt pork or two across each breast and wrap in foil, put on a smoker for 8 - 10 hrs (slow slow). Open the foil the last hour or two (depending on how much smoke you like). I tried them on my daughter without telling her what they were (she said she hated...

    venison recipes

Cut backstraps crosswise in 1/4" slices and pound the daylights out of them with the flat side of a meat tenderizer. Dip in milk and flour and toss them in hot grease (just enough to cover the bottom of the pan) until the flour browns. When done, remove the slices and pour some cool water in...

    Crow

We have a season in Ok. also because of the migratory bird treaty with Mexico, since ravens sometimes fly with crows and ravens are protected in Mexico. We can shoot them anytime if they are harming land or crops, I figure that means if they are flying over doesn't it?

    4000+ fps .22 Hornet

I wondered about them myself, but I gots ta give 'em a try. I will be shooting them out of a 21" carbine barrel so I don't expect to come anywhere near those velocities but the guy that ordered some with me has several Hornet rifles and I will find out what his velocities are also. <FONT...

    Calif. Hunter - 4,000+ fps .22 Hornet

They did report some vertical stringing and some differences of up to 145 fps between shots due to the extremely light bullet, but out of 200 shots fired at center of mass on a groundhog target, not one shot was out of the kill zone

    Calif. Hunter - 4,000+ fps .22 Hornet

They had one 200 yd. 5 shot group pictured that measured just over an inch outside edge to outside edge.

    4000+ fps .22 Hornet

I just ordered some 25 grain .22 bullets and a manual from JRP Custom Bullets in Whitehall NY. after reading an article on them in Rifle Shooter magazine. Out of a regular Hornet (not a K) they were getting 3900+ fps. He is working on a 19 grain bullet that they tested at 4000+ fps and expects...

    Calif. Hunter - 4,000+ fps .22 Hornet

I just ordered some 25 grain .224 bullets and a reloading manual from JRP Custom Bullets in Whitehall NY. after reading an article on them in Rifle Shooter magazine. Test results with the 25 grain pill were 3,900+ fps out of a Meachem low wall. He is working on a 19 grain bullet he expects to...

    Reloadable Brass?

I tried some Federal nickle brass in my 7x30 Waters Contender and some of the necks were too thick to allow me to chamber the round. I went back to necked down and fireformed 30-30 brass.

    Reloading Equipment

I have Lyman, RCBS, and CH and they all seem to load quality ammo. If you go with a kit, I would suggest getting one that includes a case trimmer. I don't have any experience with the .338 but I do load for about 30 different calibers including a .308 Norma Mag. and if the .338 is anything...

    spoonbill

KW The Neosho is still up this week and they were dumping out one of the East spillways at Tijuana. I was at Grand last weekend and the lower end of the lake looked like chocolate syrup. Hopefully it will clear up some by next week because I plan to spend the week there chasing sandies with...

DelW I don't think you can catch them any other way since they are more of a filter feeder kind of like a whale. The largest one that I ever saw went 93 lbs. on certified scales, it was the Oklahoma state record for several years.

DelW Same exact thing, one of the ugliest fish I have ever caught. Good eatin' though. KW Where do you snag? I go sometimes on the Neosho below Grand Lake or above the lake in the Miami City park.

    Hornady Custom ammo, Bad brass!

I don't like to push it either, a few extra FPS are not worth losing an eye, finger, hand, or possibly worse. I was just commenting on max. loads listed in the manuals then and now. [This message has been edited by Fatman (edited 03-02-2001).]

    Hornady Custom ammo, Bad brass!

Chainsaw You are right about the new loads being watered down, I have a Pacific manual from around 1972 and it is amazing to see the difference in some of the recommended loads then and now. From what I have found, my Lyman 47th edition shows hotter loads than Hodgdon, Nosler, or Hornady.

Any Encore or Contender 45-70 shooters out there?

Last weekend I had a moment of weakness, or stupidity I'm not sure which, and bought a 15" Encore in 45-70 Gov. I have 4 Contenders from .22 Hornet to .35 Rem. and decided it was time to step up to the Encore since the selection of high power barrels is quite a bit larger (up to .458 Win Magnum...
