WI end tomorrow, not a Togie hunt.(public)

I'll be sitting in the yard with my two oldest sons hoping other hunters get something to move past us. This will be my first WI hunt. If unsuccessful, I am hoping to get out with the muzzy on some semi-nearby public later.

    Backyard Buck

Unfortunately my camera batteries died while I was hunting in MN last week, so I haven't gotten any recent pictures of the big guy. I did have this new buck show up last night. Firearm season opens on Saturday, and hopefully something will come along during the day when I'm out there with my...

AZ unit 27 late elk? Just got a call

There is no good way to tell a wife this......

    Backyard Buck

So I've hunted on a family hunting property in Minnesota my whole life. 4 years ago I moved just across the border into Wisconsin. I decided to buy my first Wisconsin hunting license this year in hopes that I could sit in my back yard with my sons and at least get to hunt with them more there...

    Drone thermal imaging

I just recently randomly saw this video as well and have watched a few of their other videos. Very cool technology. For me, however, I think it's unethical for most hunting situations and personally think it should disqualify a buck from being entered into a record book (not that I enter any...

MN CROSSBOW NOW LEGAL FOR ALL DURING ARCHERY SEASONS

I don't have a problem with allowing crossbows. In my part of the state, you are now allowed to hunt for basically the entire rut with a gun, including the peak, and shoot essentially as many deer as you want. Add to that, you can hunt some late season dates with a gun when the deer are...

    Deer age?

After getting our deer from the last couple years aged, I've learned that my guesses on age don't mean much.

    Moose tag non-resident

I only have a sample size of one, but the one I have eaten didn't come close to being as good as the whitetails I can kill in my backyard. I have heard others who have said they love it, though, so maybe the one I got was an oddity. So far it has been my least favorite wild game red meat.

    Moose tag non-resident

Colorado cow moose is probably your best bet. There are also a few units in Idaho where historically it has appeared relatively easy for a nonresident to get a tag. Those units, however, also seem to not have much of a moose population or difficult to find the moose looking at the harvest...

    Podcast on wounding

I wonder what the wound ratio is for guys trying to self film their own hunts. I'm particularly thinking where I've seen a lot of it...treestand hunting for whitetails where they can show up pretty quick and close. I've thought it would be fun to start doing this, but I've watched too many...

    How Old Was that Animal?

I suppose this is true. It is also possible the results are 100% correct, and my guess is just off.

    How Old Was that Animal?

I just got the results back from Matsons for 4 SE Minnesota whitetails. I have to be honest and say that I'm skeptical of some of the results. This one was aged at 4.5. It's certainly possible. I thought he would either be a very nice 3.5 year old or smaller 4.5 year old but was leaning...

    Hunting Clothes and scent control

I have never bought into scent control or washing clothes separately or anything, and it hasn't hurt my success. Hunt appropriately for the wind. If stand hunting, I have found that hanging the stand very very high in the tree can help in situations where wind can be difficult. If hunting...

    Whatever happened to..?

    Wyoming Corner Crossing Bill

I'm not sure what I was looking at. I must've been half asleep when I read it or something. You are correct.

    Wyoming Corner Crossing Bill

I was thinking the same thing. Language can use some cleaning up. I get the intent of what they're saying, but it lends itself (in my eyes) to people being able to go right across a 40 acre parcel of private to get more public because they're traveling from one parcel to another. It doesn't...

    SF088 Contact House TRW

Thanks Buzz. Personally, I'm finding it difficult to stay in the moose game (never got into sheep). With the recent tag cut to 10% for non-residents, the only way I can see it worth staying in the game is for 100% bonus points. If there is a 50/50 split, there just aren't enough tags to make...

    Wildife Task force 90-10, etc.

Wyoming has to do what is best for its residents. I doubt this will really impact me personally, but the trend in western states does make me feel sad for my kids and other future generations. I still see lots of opportunities out there, but I don't know how long that will last. If my boys...
