I have a new Tikka 270 wsm I need to start burning some powder on. Looking for some suggestions for factory ammo. This will be for eastern whitetail and mule deer/pronghorn.
Here are 3 bucks for my dad and I in the last two seasons from the same drainage on National forest in Virginia. Almost 2 million acres of NF in VA and no one hunts it. People here just don’t want to hike for their deer.
Since the fireside is where stories (and lies) are told, I thought I would start a thread for everyone to post a picture of their top 3 favorite public land experiences. I'm sure most will be hunting success pictures, but make it anything you like from fishing, camping, hiking, or what ever...

I have a regular sized Tikka 7-08, the only thing I've shot is the Federal 140 nosler ballistic tips. I've killed two mature whitetail bucks at less than 60 yards, and two antelope from 250-300. I had come to not like ballistic tips in faster cartridges, but with the moderate velocity of the...
I was fortunate enough to take a nice buck for the second year in a row off the George Washington Nation Forest here in Virginia. Killed him at 12:35 on 11/19. Love these old mountain bucks.
I’ve killed a bunch of deer with the xtp’s out of a muzzleloader. In my super Blackhawk I’m shooting speer deep curls. They shoot great but haven’t killed anything with them yet.
If I could only have two rifles for North America I would choose a 25-06 and a 338win. The 338 would probably get little use though. If I looked at it a little more realistic I would say a light weight 7-08, and a 300wm.
I shoot thousands of rounds a year from an AR15, so I thought I would love hunting with one. I put together a nice little 6.8spc but soon found it wasn’t for me. So much exposed metal was like holding an ice block in cold weather.
I never saw or heard a coyote when I was in Wyoming last October. Found a few prairie dog mounds and some bones, but never saw one. The sage was too tall even if they were there. I wish I had brought some fishing gear. Those rivers look amazing.
