Saw a lot off of Patterson Pass the night before the hunt on the Nevada side. Saw them in that area regularly leading up to the hunt. Saw a bunch near Tunnel Springs on the Utah side and also off the same road on the Nevada side West of the old mining area.

Sorry! I have been MIA on this page for a while. Saw lots of elk scouting for my hunt. Killed mine on opening morning up Bettridge on the Utah side. With the fire over there this summer, it may not be a great spot.

I need tires, what's the recommendation?

Just ordered a set of these in 275/60r20 for my Ram 1500. Replacing a set of Nitto Terra Grappler AT tires that have about 43k on them and could easily go another 5k on pavement. But with the hunts coming soon for me, I opted for fresh traction. Debated the Wildpeak AT3W but I just couldn't...

    Compounds for Grandkids

Mission Menace (or Craze or whatever they call it today) is a great bow for growing and increasing draw weight. Son used his for a few years before he graduated to a Hoyt Alpha Max 32 with 50lb limbs. Our other kids loved the Hoyt Ruckus. We had two of them at one point, but our younger son...

    Forest Service Issues ‘E-Bike’ Guidance

I like that it is cut and dry. Makes it easy to know if I can or can't ride on that trail. I am 100% good with that.

    Forest Service Issues ‘E-Bike’ Guidance

I get your point but let's be real. People are going to continue to move to Montana, Idaho, Colorado, Utah etc. to "get away" from the more populated areas. They love the idea of living where they can easily access their forms of recreation. The problem isn't a few hundred mountain bikers...

    Forest Service Issues ‘E-Bike’ Guidance

I have no issues with your "vent". Sorry to hear about your Patellar Tendon. My son had to have his reconstructed due to injury while wrestling in High School. It was a rough road for him too. Luckily he had the advantage of being 16 years old and incredible young person bounce back. You and...

    Forest Service Issues ‘E-Bike’ Guidance

As an avid mountain biker, I struggle with this debate as well. Last year, I purchased a Class 1 eMtb. Guess what, I still got in good workouts, sweated hard, pedaled hard, never once used a throttle (as they don't have them on Class 1 Ebikes) and had a grand time. Why did I get an eMtb...

    Maven optics

I jumped on the Maven bandwagon early on. Ran a B2 9x45 bino for over 6 years and it never left me wanting. I sold my Leica Duovids 8-12x42 in favor of the Maven. I added a C1 8x42 for the kids to use and it is good glass. The C1 is NOT in the same class as their B series binos, but they are...

    7mm-08

Varget has been the cat's meow for us. We run 3 different 7mm-08 rifles. All three of them are sub MOA shooters with 140 ballistic tips/accubonds, loaded on top of Varget. Been very effective on game including mule deer, elk and antelope. Adults and youth hunters in our household with them...

    Annual elk rifle thread

My Kimber Montana in .325WSM shooting Nosler Accubonds loaded over RS Big Game is what I typically carry. Didn't get to in 2022 though.

What caliber are you using to get pass through shots on elk

I have experienced pass throughs with a 200 grain Accubond in my .325WSM and 160 Accubonds in my 7mm Rem Mag and 140 Accubonds in a 7mm-08. I have also caught the same bullets in elk with my .325 and 7mm Rem Mag.

    Finally got an Elk (Cow)

It has been a on going thing for me on my mountain bike. If I have fueled properly, trained appropriately, and carry enough water, I usually do pretty good. Unfortunately, I don't always fuel properly, train properly and in some cases, I run out of water, like I did while hauling my big bull...

    Finally got an Elk (Cow)

Congrats on many fine meals. Love hunting cows in the late season. Such a fun adventure. Sorry about the cramps. I get them too, sometimes really bad. Mountain Biking it becomes fairly normal when I get into the 8-10 mile range, and shorter distances with lots of elevation gain. But the...

    330 yards with a ML

I guess what I am really saying is that it is still a muzzleloader. It has its limitations, sabots don't make that big of a difference from my experience. And I have shot patched round ball, smaller conicals like Maxi Hunter/Maxi Balls, and larger conicals like the No Excuses bullets...

    330 yards with a ML

Utah used to have a rule of 1x scope max. I liked that rule. But I found I preferred a Peep sight to the 1x scope at the range and hunting. The cross hair on my 1x Burris was large enough at 100 yards that I would cover the entire 6" circle. With the front bead on the rifle and a tang...

    Knight wolverine?

I know that this is really late to the party. But FWIW, my Knight Wolverine 209 has been a terrific shooter. They are a little "involved" to clean, but the accuracy and reliability has been awesome. I also bought the conversion kit to shoot No 11 or Musket caps as well. But seeing as I...

Examples of nice elk mount with 8ft ceiling limitations

Very helpful! Trying to figure out how to make mine work in my basement. 8' ceiling for me too. Pedestal for sure, but there are some great options being displayed.
