Between the 2 you mentioned, either one would do you justice. I have both brands in various calibers and have no issues with accuracy or being picky about ammo. -
New ruger american Gen II
The gen-2's have some nice updates for sure, I have a first generation predator version in 308, and with an 18" tube I found to be very accurate, and easy to carry all day in the woods. But there isn't enough there for me to upgrade to a new one. -
Do you get tired?
My season starts early September, fall bow season for deer, and a few other seasons, shotgun, muzzleloader, then I do an out of state rifle hunt with some friends after Thanksgiving, then back for 6-day fireman, in early December, and by the end of December, I'm worn out...then it's time to...- GlockZ

My first new vehicle
I've been looking around the truck market, don't see a reason to buy a used truck, because of the prices. Even with a sizable down payment and good credit, looking at $750-$1000 a month payment on new. Thinking maybe getting a mid-sized SUV instead. Until then, I'll keep driving my 2012 Ram 1500...- GlockZ

Pin distance
I used a 5 pin set up for a long time,(20-60yds), have since switched to a single pin slider, much easier for me now as I get older. -
What lever gun are you thinking? (Bear mainly / possibly other big game)
Marlin 336 in .35 Remington. Does the job exceptionally well, with light recoil. -
How many rounds?
I try to get to the range at least once a month, throughout the spring and summer, I definitely spend a lot of time breaking clay birds. At least for me, doing trap, skeet or sporting clays helps me when hunting season opens. Also shoot a lot of 3d archery, which also helps once hunting season...- GlockZ

Which Caliber for Elk
Thank you for serving our country. As some has already posted, I don't think you can't go wrong with the 308, I think even with reduced recoil loads, the 270 is another great choice. Whichever caliber you, I want to wish you success at harvesting an animal this season. -
Who doesn’t wear camo to hunt
Yeah, today's camo offerings are too pricey, I have a few camo pieces, but for the most part, wear natural earth tone colors for hunting. Playing the wind and moving as little as possible plays a much bigger role in a successful hunt.- GlockZ

Poverty precision
Nice job! In the wake of the last few years of ammo shortages, I decided I'd better get a 308,( because in rifle ammo, 308 & 223 were always on the shelf), so I ended up with an inexpensive Ruger American Predator and mounted a Leupold 3-9x40 vx-2 on it. I was happily surprised by the accuracy... -
Does anyone carry tools to clear a barrel obstruction (mud, etc)?
I tape the muzzle with electrical tape, but I also keep a small "universal" cleaning kit and keep that in the truck, just in case. -

I own a '12 Ram 1500 with the 5.7l. I hope Chrysler resolved the issues they had with this particular engine. Recommendations for short-barreled rifle (16-18") with threaded muzzle?
I don't know your budget, but I will tell you that a Ruger American Predator in 308 is a diamond in the rough. Found mine to be very accurate with Hornady SST's in 150gr, and Federal Premium's 165gr. TB's as well as the 165gr. Fusion. Haven't hunted with it yet, just paper out to 300yds. The... -

Personally, I'd wait for the 7PRC. I'm out on the East coast and the 6.5 & 300 PRC rifles are plentiful, but the ammunition for either is very elusive, just like the the Weatherby ammo. In Need Of A 20 Gauge Slug Gun...
With the Savage 220, you can definitely extend your range a bit more than 150 yards, a hunting buddy of mine has one and I've seen him take a few deer with it in the 200 yard range. I believe the furthest shot was 210 yards the one year. He use the 3" Remington Accutips as well. -

Definitely .308 for your situation. It'll do the job you need, at home and out West.
