I am finishing if Deathbin the Silent Places. I enjoy Capstick books but they take some focus to stay with. I picked of a compilation of Jack O’Connor stories and have been enjoying it.
I’m not sure you need hard cast. Having said that even without expansion it’s still putting a pretty decent hole through. With other calibers 1.5 times expansion you’d be slightly larger than a 7mm and slightly smaller than a 30 cal. Luckily it’s your gun so you can choose what you decide is...
I got a VX3 with CDs last year. I went with the 4.5-14. If I were to do it for my other rifle I’d stick with the 3-10.
I have two old Vari x II that are nearly as old as I am. They still work great. One quite tracking but Leupold replaced the spring on warranty and I’m good to go.
I often do smoked sausage or hot dogs one night. Fully cooked so just need heated through. I normally keep some canned soup for something quick that can warm me up if it’s a cold rainy/snowy day. Past that depends on time of year and how motivated I am.
If doing pre cooked vacuum sealed...
As you can see opinions vary. My preference is for bonded or mono bullets and I have had lots of success with them. Cup and core can work but not my preference.
I tend to use Barnes TTSX or Nosler Accubond or Partitions. I have also used Hornady CX. I normally pick a bullet based on what is...
If you’re wanting something different I would say maybe the 308. Lots of ammo options. If you reload could do the 270 Winchester as you could probably use powders you already have. Lots of new cartridges out there I just always hesitate on ammo cost and availability.
I am using TTSX 180 grain in my 300 Win Mag. My original load was using H4831 SC which did well. I am now using H1000 and getting slightly better groups. Load data on Barnes website.
I can’t speak to the super light. However, I’ve never had an issue with either of my Howa actions. One is in 270 and the other is 243. Action is reasonably smooth for the price range. Never had any issues with feeding or ejection.
One of my hunting mentors successfully hunted elk with. 8mm Mauser his grandfather sporterized. He hunted a few seasons with it and took two cow elk I am aware of. I think a 3x9 scope like you mentioned would be adequate. Have fun and enjoy
I suppose you like the prospect of federal lands being turned over to the states? Then for the states to sell them to the highest bidder because they don’t have the funding to manage lands. If you believe politicians in favor of this such as Labrador intend those lands to stay public you are...
If you like zero that’s fine. I don’t understand adding egg instead of fat. Somehow chicken eggs are better than just adding beef or pork fat? You’re not the only one so I’m not digging on you. I just don’t agree with the concept of adding egg. Unless your making meat balls or something.
It just depends what you are after. 10% is good if you want leaner or are mostly cooking in a skillet and draining. If grilling a lot 20% is good. I tend to do 15% as a medium. If making sausage I figure 20-30% pork fat depending on the sausage I’m making.
I use 180 grain Barnes TTSX. I developed decent loads with both H1000 and H4831. With all copper you can step down a weight class. Would have similar retained weights but get more velocity and flatter trajectory. It just depends what you are after. I’ve had success with Hornady GMX (old...
In my .54 TC New Englander I push a round ball with 90g of FFG Pyrodex. Anything more and it would lessen accuracy. Try a a heavier charge in yours and see it it hold accuracy. Nothing wrong with your load though.
