    Crossbow because elbow injury

Back in 2003, I fractured the bone in my elbow, and it never healed right. The days of shooting my bow were over. But crossbows suddenly became popular, and I bought a second hand Ten Point for a fair price. Amazing accuracy at 35 yards! TR

    Classic western Lever gun?

Many hunters assume that the old 30-30 is a short range brush cartridge. But by hand loading the Sierra spitzer 125 grain bullets, shots out to about 250 yards are within reason. I sight in for a zero of three inches high at 100 yards. This makes for a decent antelope rifle assuming scope...

What is the biggest challenge for you in hunting?

I can hunt in the nearby Nat'l. Forest but so do dozens of others. So I apply for limited entry hunts at Wildlife Management Units. This year I was fortunate and was drawn for three day hunts on two separate dates. - TR

A man gets a call from his Doctor. He says, "I've got some bad news for you and some worse news." "Give me the bad news first." The Doctor tells him that he has only 24 hours left to live. "But the worse news is that I tried to call you yesterday."

    Black Hills Any Deer.

There is pocket of mulies that feed the edges of the "Piedmont burn." A forest fire blew through there about 20 years ago. I no longer hunt the Black Hills due to a number of factors, so good luck to you. TR

    Deer - lets see em

This dandy Maryland buck was downed at 18 yards. A painful elbow fracture ruined my recurve shooting days. But I found this second hand Ten Point crossbow for a fair price and it is a keeper! How do you like my camo shirt? - TR

    6.5 Grendel vs .243 win

I use my Remington .243 for long distance shooting at pronghorn antelope. It hits hard way out there at 300 yards or so without any problems. This cartridge has been slaying animals for over 60 years and remains popular which is saying a lot. But the recoil question has me thinking that the...

    Alaska Cartridge Question

I don't hunt in Alaska but my USAF buddy retired to Palmer about 20 years ago. He hunts moose, caribou, dall sheep, and black bears with his Remington 30-06. 180 grain Core-lokt ammo for everything and has no problems. Your 7mm MAG will be fine. - TR

    Favorite Elk Calibers

I can lever my Savage .308 very quickly to score that second shot while a magnum shooter has not even recovered from the recoil of his first shot. Two .308 bullets dump more energy, too! - TR
