Driving through Nebraska headed west toward WY this summer I saw more whitetails along the Platte River than I've seen anywhere. Big, big deer. Nebrasksa is definitely on my list to try someday.
Thanks for the reply Buzz. That is all I was looking for in the way of a response. To those interested, I certainly wasn't asking for a "where" and am somewhat surprised a the comments my question generated.
I do live in Texas and we do hunt whitetails over feeders. But I've never hunted a...
Even thought the moose population was quite small to begin with, I think they have really seen a drop in them in Yellowstone as well. When I was up there this summer one of the NPS biologist mentioned the drop and attibuted it to habitat changes due to the fires over a decade ago. I don't know...
We were there the first week of October. I just now got around to posting. The mulie in velvet was shot just as their first storm of the year was blowing in. It was starting to rain/sleet. By the time we got him out and back to camp, there was already 2-3 inches of snow on the ground. We...
It is a little easier hunting on private land. For the first time ever, my group filled every tag we had on a western hunting trip. We've paid a little over a decades worth of dues on public land though with animals harvested every now and then.
Had a wonderful trip to northeastern WY and...
I'm headed that way Wednesday night. Unit 23 antelope, Region C deer. Hunting on a large buffalo ranch near Wright for antelope, but we are on public land for mulies.
I saw it. They certainly had quite a crew. The older houndsman he kept trying to interview was certainly a talkative fellow. I think his longest reply to one of Zumbo's questions might have pushed to two words if you counted the sound of him clearing his throad.
Pretty country where they...
In 1997, I was working at Fort Polk and had to go out to a report of a helicopter crash in an exotic animal farm near the Installation. When our team got there, we found that a blackhawk had made an emergency landing into what I figured was the only herd of elk in Louisiana. It was about a...
Congratulations on the tag! Don't hesistate to take a cow unless you are dead set on a trophy and willing to come home empty. Your buddy that didn't draw should check to see if they have leftover cow tags for that season.
Right now I'm usually hunting units in CO with ES tags. With that tag, it would have to be a pretty nice 5x5 or larger or otherwise I would just take a cow. I haven't hit the point where I'm worried about score. That said, there is no point in shooting a 2 1/2 year old bull.
I go through Shreveport pretty regularly on my way to Fort Polk. My company does work for the Army there. I had a blast on my first antelope hunt last year and am going back again this year. I think it will be a great first western hunt for kids. Mine are only 5 and 3, but I will be taking...
You could do a pretty quick antelope hunt in four days from Louisiana. A day on each end getting there and back and two days of hunting. Its easy to get tags in many places in WY. I bet he could get by with missing a couple of days. We tagged out on our first antelope hunt on public land...
