You will run into a lot of hikers (nonhunters). It didn't affect the elk at all where we hunted.
Hardest part of the hunt is getting close to your target bull when there is 100 elk in the herd. Fun hunt but by no means a trophy hunt. The views for me was the highlight of my trip. Of...
I'll put my .02 in. I will never go back to a GPS again. For me the android phone with Backcountry Navigator Pro is the only way to go.
Pros:
The App is cheap
State Apps / landownership maps are cheap (usually $10 per state)
Easy to download way points from google earth
Easy to use without...
Great stuff. Congrats on a successful scouting adventure. I'm heading up that way in November as well for my first chance at a roosevelt. Good luck to you.
Looks like I used up my 10 pp points for elk. Decided to try my luck on a Rosy. Drew the Powers #2. Does anyone know about that tag. First time hunting Rosy's and hunting in that thick stuff for elk. It will he fun trying though.
I lucked out on the last day again. To be honest I thought the number of mature bucks was way down. I think the early snow helped out the rifle hunters a lot this year. The buck to doe ratio was as low as I've ever seen. With that said, still a very fun hunt and time to be in the hills.
Congrats on an awesome buck. I love those big old mature bucks. You put a 170", 3.5 year old 4 point and a 130" 7 year old 2 point in front of me and I'm shooting the 2 point every day. That is a special trophy.
Wow that is an awesome pic. That dog on the right looks huge. I would have a hard time shooting the black one with that pig around. Either way you couldn't go wrong with either one.
I think you need to shoot that wide bull. Let those others walk. Now for Moosie I'm going to have to hold his arrows or he will be flinging.
Good Luck. Two days and we will be hunting.
I'm getting excited for this one as well. This was my rifle bull from the first time. Passed much better bulls during archery but for the last day of the last hunt this one was plenty good enough for me.
