I saw Matthew's request and I thought this would be a fitting place. Happy Birthday Randy! Thank you for everything you've done, do, and continue doing for sportsman/women and our amazing public lands. You've inspired me to be a better steward of the land through volunteering and expanding my...
I usually e-scout, making 10-15 key spots. Then go scout them in person. I look for area where edges collide: water, roost trees, food. Treat it like deer hunting
I'm in NE Washington, and I'm already scouting over here. Like Nic said, they're still in there winter flocks but they won't go far. Every flock of toms I've seen they're all fighting/strutting about constantly so they should breakup soon. They're definitely gobbling on the roost in the morning...
Yeah, from what I've read there is a definite decline in whitetail harvest in there NE. I've been looking into out of state elk tags also. Thanks again!
I really appreciate everyone's input, suggestions, and tips. I'm looking forward to learning Washington(and probably Idaho). If anyone ever needs or wants a hunting/fishing partner, feel free to hit me up.
Thanks for the pointers! I wasn't looking for a hand out, just a hunting partner and someone to possibly learn from. I have next to no experience elk/bear hunting but I'll figure it out I'm sure.
I've been reading alot on that forum actually. I'm assuming the hunting in WA is similar for other states I've hunted in, 90% of the people are within a mile of the road. I'm just trying to stay optimistic about the area and see for myself. Thank you though
That's the general consensus from what I've read online(turkeys and whitetail being easy) . I've been creeping on NE WA online for a couple months now. Everyone seems to talk alot of trash about the any elk/any bull area's but I'm sceptical myself. I haven't gotten a chance to get out and...
How's it going? Just moved to the Spokane area for work from SD. Thought I'd throw a post on here in the hopes I'd find a partner or two to maybe help show me the ropes a little(or ride the struggle bus learning lol). Plan on hunting everything with a season and have a strong back. Looking...
I'm probably not what your looking for in a hunting partner but I'll throw my name in the hat. I'm moving to Spokane for work in March and want to hit the ground running with learning WA/northern ID if you want to struggle together. Been a public land hunter my whole life and I've got butchering...
I'm right there with you Scott, I'm 27 and have 0 points for any of those. With point creep, the prices to apply every year, and the chances that I'll ever draw one being adjacent to zero I've all but given up on those hunts that require PP's to draw. My thoughts on it are apply for Idaho/New...
The GF&P app use to be good but I'm not a fan of the updated one. If you have a Garmin GPS, you can download the public land maps from there website for FREE. I agree with everyone else, the week before rifle is the prime time for find muley bucks. Good glass should be on the top of your list, I...
I own both. I would highly suggest you DO NOT use the havalon for big game. I broke it twice on one deer 2yrs ago popping joints and turning the corner in the "armpit". Its now reserved for small game only in my book. My true vote is for a good fixed blade, full tang knife though. Not a fan of...
I've had some nasty mule deer and pronghorn in the past that other people have shot but everyone I've ever taken has been great. My rutty, 3 1/2 yr old buck from this year even tastes good with just salt/pepper/oil on the grill. Its 100% about field care! Get them gutted, washed out, hanging or...
