Hello, was wondering if anyone with more knowledge about wildfires could fill me in a little.
Do they occur every year? When do they usually clear up? I am supposed to be going on a moose hunt in central BC in 5 weeks and I am reading they have a lot of wildfires going on. spoke to the...
wllm1313. Thanks! That's a lot of info.
Would I be just as well to buy the in reach mini (to text when I am out of service) and the onx maps on my phone? What would the benefit of getting the inreach explorer plus be??
Sounds like a great tool. OnX maps sounds great too but I have no clue how that all works leaving me extremely hesitant. I would love to get an inreach, link with my phone and be able to send texts while having access on my phone to maps of my hunting area. Maybe only way to figure it all...
Really close to buying one just because of the comments on this thread giving the peace of mind when our of cell service. So if the Garmin connects with my phone and I had it on airplane mode or something to conserve the battery. Would o be able to use them combined and show a map of where I...
Thanks all for the suggestions and stories. I have been shooting for 30 years and also was in the marines... so I felt like an idiot that I let that happen. But hearing these stories reminds me sh&# happens!
I'm sticking with the federal trophy bonded 200 grains. Less than 7 weeks away... but...
Got ya. Makes sense. I'm just surprised the amount it was off. I started 2nd guessing the 200 grain ammo. And was thinking maybe I need nosler ammo haha
Another ammo question... broke the barrel.in with fusion 225 gr. Started to site in federal 200 gr and they were hitting 4" high at 100 yards. Would different ammo really be that off? Just seems like a lot... I get the lower grain and "better" quality... but still
Haha. For sure!
Hes doing my bull from last year... skull mount and hes painting the skull with the scene of where it all happened. Him behind calling me kneeling by a fallin tree. When he gets it to me I'll share a pic.
I suggest working out prior to the trip. Maybe hiking a local ski mountain(if available) with a weighted pack. Also stay hydrated when you are out there. I brought, as more of a joke on one of my elk hunts with a few older friends cans of "O2 unleashed" which are small cans of 95 % oxygen...
Haha. Sounds good. Few years back a friend and I drove from NY to Idaho for a DIY sell hunt... we stopped in Nebraska for a steak... we walked in (dressed in basketball shorts and t shirts) and realized very quickly we were not in the right place haha. People were dressed in suits and...
I guess central BC? We meet the outfitter in prince George. I do think the hunt should* be right around the rut. We booked it 2.5 years in advance and this was when the outfitter said to come. He said 1st week of October should provide best opportunity for calling to be effective. I'm not a...
My hunt is oct 1st to the 8th. Mix in 3 days drive there and 3 back haha. Moose with black bear tag added and the outfitter gives every hunter a wolf tag. Was told we can small game hunt and fish if/when we tag out. This trip is over 2 years in the making so I am starting to get really excited
I should start putting in. Would love to only drive 4 hours to elk hunt instead of 30! How much does it cost to apply? Never have even considered throwing my name in the hat. Is it possible for me to draw in my lifetime?
I live in NY and have hunted elk out west 5 times... flew 3 times... MUCH easier and convenient to drive. And cheaper! Have bought cheap coolers, processed the meat and shipped it home. 1 time went great, 1 time not as good. Both cost on average 450 for shipping. Then another 150 for...
I have a Samsung. Assuming onx maps will work on my phone? So dumb question about that... does that work without reception? Once I get to a hunting location, I use a GPS to mark spots and get back to camp. Other than that, I dont use maps but I think it could help me take another step. I'm...
I dont have many mounts making my knowledge somewhat limited. My friend in Idaho who I hunt elk with is a part time taxidermist, so I dont have a good grasp at actual costs. I have an elk head he did for me for $500 and I have a wood duck that cost me 150 and lastly a whitetail that cost me...
