Just curious if anyone knows about the private land access for doe hunting around Gillette (units17,19,23,24,27) . Will landowners let you hunt for free or do most charge a trespass fee and if so any idea what the average is? a couple of us should have buck tags in another unit that doesn't...
the odds are definitely not in your favor but if its a dream of yours i would first determine you budget to be able to apply in as many states as you can for bighorn. without knowing your budget i won't even give advice as to which states i'd look at. I have been lucky enough to draw in my...
tack on Wyomings guide welfare requirement if you want to hunt in the wilderness and you will meet or exceed many hunts in Alaska. not saying $6k isn't unreasonable for the tag, resident price 10% of NR is acceptable to me as a good rule way of setting prices. but it will price out many as...
i'm in the same boat as you with 2 points and wanting to hunt goats in WY. been looking at those units you have as well as 81 and 82. and further east. would love a hunt that has decent bucks and can get some doe tags to fill the freezer.
as said earlier, each state you apply for sheep will for the most part cost you $150-200 non refundable. simple math depending on how many states you apply in and what the odds are to determine how many years you will be doing that for. you could compromise and apply for a couple of the states...
I've hunted Dall with a guide in AK and Bighorn in Idaho DIY. both were without a doubt the two hardest hunts I've done physically and mentally. My Dall hunt was plagued with grizzlies chasing sheep off, 1 blown stalk and getting busted by a 4th ram we didn't know was there, and then finally...
the Frank Church tags are no where near units you'd want to apply for if you are wanting a great chance at harvesting a ram either. 27-1 is usually 30% or less harvest, 27-2 is about the same.
27-3 was 75% for the first time in many years this past year( I was one of them) typically its 50%...
I wouldn't focus on preference point states either. mathematically you are WAY too late in the game to ever draw a tag with preference points. i'd look at bonus point states or states that are purely random. UT draws most if not all NR sheep tags in their random pools, AZ draws most of their NR...
um how do you figure that? most NR moose tags in Idaho are at best 10% odds. there are residents that took 10+ years to draw a bull tag in the decent units. I mean its possible but odds are not in your favor. I mean hell its possible you never draw in Idaho too.
I'm bailing. I only have a couple points each. bailing on bison after that tag fee increase. will stay in for antelope, deer. I can draw moose and mountain goats in Idaho as a resident.
Thanks for all the responses!! we are still debating on the state. a nice dark horned buck from Oregon looks amazing. the rain and wet doesn't bother us. We got it every day on Kodiak hunting Sitka blacktails! the style of hunting we are most used to and best at is getting in deep and up...
Hey all, my buddy and I have decided that next year we want to go after Columbia blacktails. we each have the other 4 main deer species for North America and are looking to finish it out. We don't have points in any of the 3 blacktail states so that will limit our areas we can look at. We are...
depends on your physical abilities. its some of the most brutal country i've ever hunted and seen very little game. for the 18 days i spent in there. took me 14 days to find a ram. never saw an elk or deer worth packing out.
