That was a 7 point with an 11" H1. I need to go back and look for the other side......300 mile drive from here, one way.....grin! I'll be back there in May!
Nothing drawn in our house. I can't complain though....I've had a few bull permits in the past eight years. My wife, not so much. She now has 10 points for elk......
I'm saving my luck for the "big three".........grin!
Just this so far....might have been some bears around, but I was too busy picking up a bunch of brown elk sheds to look real hard.....grin! Best is yet to come.
I saw dozens of mule deer bucks today from the Jet Ranger that still had both sides and a few with just one.....IMO, they hold them a little longer through a mild winter.
Basically, trapping a wolf in a steel trap is no different than trapping a coyote. Everything is just "scaled up". I will say it gets frustrating waiting for them to return to the sets......their homerange is just so big it may be weeks before they show up again...keeping steel traps going in...
Sorry for the late reply.....Bob is a very good friend of mine. Proud to say he mentored me in my younger days. One of the finest outdoorsman I've ever known.
I snapped this pic of a friend licking his chops in anticipation of some August dall sheep backstrap....maybe it's the fact of where you are when you eat it that makes it so delicious.
Give yourself lots of time....bears can be fickle in the spring. Be persistent. May 10th through May 20th is the best. Lastly, lose the crowd. Bears, especially old boars stay away from human activity and are really shy.
Have fun....it's one of Montana's best and most underrated hunts.
Tenderloins from a bighorn taken in the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness. Red meat does't get any better than that.
When we finished off boning this ram the only thing left was a greasy spot in the snow.....
