    Never Ending Challenge of Access

Until the lawyers get involved. Wasn’t there a US Supreme Court case permitting Montana’s NR license structure so long as the difference between resident and non resident was reasonable?

    Moo-cow headshot - caliber?

Last one I was involved with entailed a 357, a tractor and a little rush job. Tbone was a steer a buddy had been finishing on ground peas. He was a voracious hoover of peas reaching ideal size when we came by the friends house. The evening we arrived, Tbone as usual consumed his share of peas as...

Wax, spary or gel case lube for sizing

I am still using an original bottle of Dillon spray. I put cases in ziplock, spray a few squirts in, massage them around and then size. No complaints and no idea if it has a neurotoxin. I just wipe it off after sizing with a paper towel.

Extreme hunting pressure in region 7.

I don’t know anyone that goes to western Montana to hunt elk anymore. Whether that is actual elk numbers or marketing, I am not sure. I do think the current reliance and focus on spreadsheets and drawing odds are problematic. With those statistics, fwp should include access numbers along with...

    Dad Joke thread

My mother and her friend drove by a cemetery and her friend said “wow that is a pretty cemetery.” My mother said well “that is the last place I want to see.” From the back seat I piped up with “duly noted” Mom did not find the humor. Her friend laughed hard.

    Female Shotgun Advice

This lady donated a women’s shotgun to a raffle for women shooters. She does clinics around MT for women shooters. It might be some help. https://flatheadbeacon.com/2024/09/07/pioneering-montana-state-womens-trap-league-wraps-up-season-with-shotgun-sister-shoot-off-in-kalispell/

    Calf Mortality After Cow Dies

Hunted private with two cow tags last year. I asked whether the ranch preferred I take cow/calf or two cows. They requested I take two cows. I talked to fwp warden later regarding mortality on the calf crop and was told by late fall the survival rate is on par with weened calves per the...

    Property Taxes

Here is another resource. https://leg.mt.gov/content/Committees/Interim/2021-2022/Revenue/Meetings/June-2022/residential-prop-tax-brochure-draft.pdf Maybe it was previously posted but citations to politicians may sometimes be written towards a certain agenda. Which appears to be blowing up...

    Property Taxes

But there is a small grain of truth to it. In 2014 what percentage of the total property tax pie was paid by business compared to individual residential. Those percentages have now reversed with the larger share of total property tax being paid by individual residential. Residential taxpayers...

    Suppressor

I am not worried about timing, post Federal approval. The sheriff’ office notice and review takes time as well as actually producing the item. Not sure if they are built ahead of time or not. One number I heard was 30,000 in processing. I figure I will get it when I sign the post office dohicky.

    Suppressor

I saw a can at the local gun store yesterday that the threads started 1/2 way inside the can. 1/2 can was in front of barrel- 1/2 can extended back down the barrel towards the shooter. I have wondered in the past why that hadn’t been done. It was in .25 cal so I didn’t spend much time checking...
