When you tag out, remember...A toast to the East, a toast to the west, then North & South. It's an honorable tribute to the rising and setting sun and to the poles of earth to which give our bounty. Go forth, slay critters, and do the rifle proud. (P.S. pictues are always welcomed)
We've all been there. That instant when you are innocently being 'You' in any given social situation/conversation and out of Nowhere you get "The Look" !
I'll toss one out just to get things started..... Nicie (Gf) and I were at our usual happy hour watering hole on Band night, a couple hours...
I've lost count number of times my EX Witched about me bringing home another deer with my 308. My Dad bought a Rem 600 for me when I was 16, didn't let me have it until I was 35. Then the 10 yrs. of carnage began.
I will never dissuade anyone from a 308, great Great GREAT cartridge ...
Yep. I've lived longer than I ever expected to. Been in places that were Paradise, as well as Hell. Places that 1% of us would ever have had the opportunity. I've always held 'Lopes as my ultimate fun hunt as long back as to when I was 7 yrs old and reading my uncle Roy's Outdoor life magazines...
I knew we were in trouble when our son nonchalantly started to walk through the house turning on/off light switches, with the hoop on a fly swatter handle, at the age of 2 !! He could unlock doors and go outside whenever we even mildly distracted. He tested us for the next 16 tears when...
I still own a Rem, but retired it due to a sloppy safety. Sold my Win 70 cuz of stock configuration & recoil. Next up was Howa, Great rifle, but I out grew the use of a 7RM. Now it's a Ruger 7mm/08 or the 338 Fed. It's been BANG, Tag & drag 'em ever since.
150 BT's are an Awesome bullet! Used them for a decade with my 7/08. Sorry to say I don't have any on hand, but I'll part with some 140's seconds if it would help you out.
I don't know if this fits into your criteria, but I went the re-bore route about 5 years ago. Bought a Ruger American Predator .308 for $289 and had JES re-bore it ($250). Topped it off with a Leupold 2X7X32 ($199). Came out cheaper, total, than an off the shelf anything plain rifle I could find...
I agree, black bears die just about as easily as the generic Whitetail, However.....there is a boatload of course hair, dense muscle and/or fat to contend with that whitetails don't have. I want TWO nice sized holes on opposing sides. With that said, a larger bore is my choice. My personal...
I hunted whitetails & pigs for a decade with 150 BT's. Why? Cuz that was I had on hand when I retired my 7 RM, plain & simple. 15 ft out to 300 yds+, first shot, Done!
But the truth is I've switched to 140 BT's for slightly better ballistics.
If I didn't have so many 140's on hand I'd now...
