I have a .308 Win that I haven't loaded for yet but it shoots factory Win and Federal ammo in 150 gr less than MOA at 100. The other one is a 6.5cm west river stock. Haven't played with it at all yet.

The 700 has the biggest mag box of the SA's I believe. If you want more than that, you're going to have to get into some serious cash as you say or get AR style detachable mag. Which isn't a bad option, but I don't think it's what he wants for this gun.

If you're going to order a barrel, I'd look into getting a 1:8 twist on it. More RPM's in not a bad thing. What bullets do you intend to shoot in it?
Also, a sporter barrel won't make a "light little rig." They're pretty heavy for a hunting rifle.
That makes a lot more sense. Truthfully, I wouldn't pay $2500 for an early October hunt. Rent a hotel for a week, hang some stands on IL public land in the end of October and I'll bet you do as good or better.
My daily driver is the same as my hunting truck, boat pulling truck, atv pulling truck. More vehicles means more maintenance, more insurance, etc...
