Tongue in cheek comment here but I think looking within the borders of those "mountainous" states and laying blame to the explosion of people is alot easier.
I don't think there's any Midwestern people running forums, tag services, call making, master classes pimping out the west to us...
This is probably the most funny/frustrating part. People buying tags just bc, I saw it mentioned earlier or a difference thread, but it seems like it's almost more cool to say "I have an elk tag" than actually knowing how to hunt it.
How is it any different from guys in those mountainous states, namely to the NE and E of ID, that can get 2-4 elk, 1-2 mule deer, 1-2 Whitetail tags a year and hunt them for 5 months coming to Idaho?
All kinds of opportunity on some really good deer in some VERY well managed areas. You are...
It would be interesting to see a break down by state of NR tag holders. I bet ID residents have far less "Easterner's" to complain about than CA, UT, WA & OR guys.
I will be honest I really like the way ID does it. The live draw is pretty cool to watch unfold. Maybe, even make it like I belive it's Maine moose and stream it live.
The things that need to go and would make ID (imo) the best system in the west: (in no order)
1) They need to eliminate the in...
Not disputing this hc obviously it has happened to people. But how high are you guys wearing your bino harness on your chest or how short is your neck? I've tried to replicate this wearing my harness and can't make flap come remotely close to my face.
Again not arguing genuinely wondering.
Worked:
1) Stone Glacier quilt. Was always hesitant to go to a quilt glad I did! It worked very well.
2) Zoleo. First time using a satellite messenger and this one worked great. Nice piece of comfort to have
3) Kuiu gaiters. Was a wet fall and these things were a life saver for my lower legs...
Weight or space isn't an issue even with 2 of us. It was more of time getting enough wood to keep the fire burning. Will consider taking the stove. But would we need to keep it burning to eliminate the condensation throughout the night?
We stayed warm enough was just getting rained on inside...
Last year my hunting partner and I purchased the SO Redcliff tent. Its usually just him and I hunting. Last year we had another guy come with no condensation issue. Early September hunt. This fall just he and I mid September hunt, condensation was HORRIBLE!!!
We have a stove but haven't used...
Not sure if you got new arrows but just wanted to add make sure you look at the charts from the company you decide to buy arrows from. Carbon Express has a weird spine chart and you would actually want 250 spine. Most companies you would go 350.
Just double check draw weight vs recommended spine.
Preface: I don't think camo is "super" important or needed. I do wear camo/solid of high end products bc high-end gear is light, dries fast, and warmth to weight ratio is crazy.
With that said I always get a chuckle when "old timers" (no offense bc I am getting there too 😀 and will wear that...
That's what I do too. Never been an issue
I was saying Ontario mentioned he has a pack with the connection strap so he didn't know how a bino harness would work.
For the guys using the harness attached to you pack what are you doing when you decide to drop your pack for a stalk? Or even when you sit to glass just holding your binos?
These 2 scenarios are what has held me back from going this route.
It seems counterintuitive, but I have an FHF harness never had an issue until this year. One day I tightened the straps to have the harness sit higher on my chest and tighter. That day my traps where killing me along with right down my spine. I had never had an issue before this. I loosened the...
I'm more confused by how having the strap that connects the shoulder straps (standard on even my kids Frozen backpack) makes it impossible to wear a binoharnes. So much in thay post to unpakcage tho.
