Same here, I have a 7mm mag and 7mm-08, both have tight bolt lift. Customer service said it is because of very tight tolerances and they use a slightly heavier spring than others (compared to Rem 700 probably). They both shoot pretty well, but I'll probably sell them both down the line at some...
What about 124? A friend had the tag down there a few years ago. Lots of driving and glassing from the road. He made a short stalk and shot a decent bull. I don't know how many points it takes, however.
Agreed, I just think it is a bad precedent to have this done through a ballot initiative. It may be a headache for ranchers and perhaps locally there will be some reductions in elk herds. Given what some herds are already up against- winter range development, year round recreation, vehicle...
Haha that is pretty funny - just want to give a nod to the Boulder folks who voted for introduction. There is quite a bit of difference between Boulder and Grand County. Does anyone know the exact release areas? I thought I saw Radium SWA, but haven't had the time to look into it.
It is a pretty tough zone to hunt. I recently moved to Teton Valley and no one who lives here hunts that zone. I have seen elk in there but sounds like densities are really low and it is a challenge. Beautiful country, however.
This, I believe is partially true. The problem is when people talk about Colorado as a whole, they are really talking about the I-25/I-70 corridor. There are a ton of cool places that are outside of this area that don't get the crowds and are nice places to live (if you can find work, etc.)...
You probably have one of the most reliable vehicles ever made and you'll likely be disappointed with any newer Toyota other than the tech goodies, which are admittedly very nice. Issue I have with the new Tundras is no tow hooks! WTF?! You could probably sell that Tundra to some CU Boulder...
Stellar Bull! How far was your shot? I've got a 7mm-08 but haven't brought it elk hunting yet. I'm thinking I will next fall. Everyone I talk to says to simply limit how far you shoot. I have a self imposed limit of 400 if everything lines up. I'll probably go with 140 grain Nosler E-tip.
THere's almost nothing I hate more than naming wild animals. Doesn't matter the species. Why don't they go name the elk, the deer, etc. It is just so dumb.
Camo in general is a marketing gimmick. It's for the consumer, not for the animal. I have a Ciper camo top I'd be happy to part with for cheap if you want it. I think they are coming out with a new Cipher, right?
Thats pretty funny about the knife. I lost a knife in the WY wilderness 10 years ago after cutting up a bull, it was a nice Knives of Alaska blade. I may have to go back to that spot and see if I can find it...
I've always had fairly easy shots on deer. Inside 200 yards and mostly broadside. The best shot I made was on a buck we bumped at about 100 yards. He trotted off and I made a beeline for some tall brush for cover. Worked up the brushline and saw him on the other side quartering to me at probably...
