I'm hoping this doesn't get tied to hunting in some way. Maybe this guy is a decoy for the green agenda and wants wolves back on the endangered species list. Was this an April 1 story I hope!?
I've got a Garmin 64s (I think) sitting around with OnX chips for CO and WY. I haven't used it in awhile, so I'd have to find it. Happy to make a good deal.
I know they had a pretty big push a few years ago to get more state trust land open. As far as where they stand, I believe they want more state trust lands to be open to hunting. I'd get in touch with the CO Chapter Coordinator Bryan Jones. I think some of the folks that led that effort a few...
Yes please comment! If not somewhere else, ask that development be done in places outside of critical wildlife habitat. In general, there is enough lower conservation value land to support the BLM's forseeable development scenario. My thinking is that this development is coming to public land...
Has the whole dog culture in America gotten out of hand? I am not a dog person and really don't understand the draw of having one unless it serves a functional purpose (ranch work, hunting, etc.). The amount of times a 'friendly' dog has jumped up on me or my 2 yr old is infuriating. Granted...
On the face one could think it is fraud, but all the information is out there to know what you're getting yourself into when applying for points. Doesn't necessarily make it right, however.
In CO, I always liked to try to find areas between where people could day hunt and where the outfitters were. Distance depends on the unit and the terrain. I remember one year we camped 3 miles in and could glass almost back to the truck. We glassed a small herd of elk with a good bull in it...
I generally like the merino wool baselayers for early season when it is warmer out. It doesn't bother me that it doesn't dry as fast in that warmer weather and it is more comfortable IMO. I also am more likely to be backpacking early season so the stink factor is less. Also, I find it easier to...
This year I'll be going with a CA Mesa 7mm rem mag and trying the 140 grain Sako Powerhead Blade. Haven't used this round yet, but was given a box and they shoot really well in my rifle so hopefully I can figure out how they work on game. If I draw a late season cow tag I may bring my 25-06 with...
Some of the best times of my youth were 311 concerts at the Jersey Shore. I really haven't listened to much of their new music, but I've probably listened to their albums from the 90s and early 00's more than any other album. I remember there was a month in high school when I solely listened to 311.
The big takeaway is don't quit. After a few days of killing yourself with nothing to show for it is easy to throw in the towel. Persevere and at least you'll know you left it all on the table. Also, if you're hunting 49 in CO, Meateater did an elk hunt in that unit. May want to check it out...

I feel ya. My hunting career has been limping along since my son was born in 2021 and we just had a second last fall. I was able to get out for 5 days of archery elk before he was born, so compared to the two seasons before that, it was a win. Although we didn't punch a tag, it was good to be in...
As a WY resident, the world is your oyster. The general elk tag is really good, especially if you have the drive to put in some time which it sounds like you do. Good luck!
