Utah ranchers living on public land

How about we all take up 27 acres or even 1 on public land and build a house. That is exactly the problem.

Are we lucky in some ways to be hunting in CA?

Hunting bobcats is also illegal now. Mountain lion hunting has been illegal for decades. It’s just a matter of time before bear and coyote hunting is illegal. This state is not hunter friendly 1 bit.

Forget caliber and bullet, let’s talk shot placement

Straight up double lung for me preferred. If quartering, one of the front shoulders is going bye bye along with 1 lung.

4.89 for regular unleaded in Huntington Beach last night.

Are we lucky in some ways to be hunting in CA?

I’m out of here the second I can retire. Actually will start the process a year before. I’m 53. 6-7 more years to go in this insane place. I don’t bird hunt, but I will miss the excellent ocean fishing and the fishing in the upper Owens river. Other than that, screw this state and doubt...

    Stolen ATV, What now?

Disturbing. This is a pain in the ass nobody needs. I think the first thing to do would be to go to the police and get a copy of the report. Seems to me this would be covered under the shop’s insurance.

Pulled the trigger on a Kodiak flexbow 8x9 deluxe

I received the tent yesterday and set it up. Here is my take. Setup for myself is easy, and literally 15 mins taking it easy. Floor is super high quality. The stitching, poles and canvas appear to be more than adequate. The vents in the top are well protected from rain/snow. The stakes...

    Big ol' fork

Decent sized, but no sag in the gut or old man face. That’s a young deer.

Does anyone carry tools to clear a barrel obstruction (mud, etc)?

I carry a bore snake. I can find a stick to get a clog out, and then follow up with the bore snake. I tape the muzzle too.

    Colorado Buck Quality

I can only speak to 2nd rifle season this year in the units I hunted, and have hunted for years. I did vote for not sure. I did not have a buck tag this year, but I certainly was paying attention. I can't say I saw less or more in quantity or quality. I saw bucks every day of the season, and...

    Gelding Buck?

Shot one kinda like that in Central Co maybe 20+ years ago on a last day of season shot. Either no huevos, or really tiny ones. Did not inspect further. Lots of fat, and had a pretty heavy body. Was not in velvet, but antlers were more like blade shaped instead. Was a spike, but spikes were...

    CO Deer 2022

Congrats. Good sized buck there. Yup, lots of snow and cold this year in 2nd season too. Most snow I can remember hunting in.

im ebarrased to be a hunter in montana(RANT)

I honestly don’t understand folks not following hunting laws and just exercising decency. It’s really not hard. I’ve never bothered a land owner. Never got near hunting on private land that I did not have permission to hunt long ahead of hunting season. Trespassing ain’t ok. Breaking...

    Realistic shooting distances

Nowadays, there is about zero excuse to not have a range finder. Most have angle compensators too. Having a range finder in the field coupled with practice at the range should be able to tell you what your max range is. It’s going to be different for everyone depending on cartridge, skill, weather.

    Now THATS a brook trout

I saw that article earlier this week. Made me do a double take, as I did not initially think that was a brookie pictured, but as another poster pointed out, that is a brookie tail. I've caught what I thought were nice brookies in the 15" class, in super skinny water in the high CA Sierras in...
