.300 WSM vs. .280 Ackley Improved
better yet 280 AI vs 28 nosler, I tried a lot to get my 300 ism to group... from 165's to 210, barnes, nosler, sierra's, burgers.. different powders, primers, etc..... couldn't get it done. Not going back to that caliber, i'd take a 300 WM instead in 30 cal. -

Gear advice from experienced elk hunters
Just an FYI, I use my trekking poles as bino support so I dont need to lug a tripod. Not as effective but better then nothing. -

Tips for learning mulies?
Slow down on glassing and get as high as you can to cover as much ground as you can. I have watched deer appear out of no where long after I though all the deer were gone from the area, and they were the bigger boys. -

If you are choosing the general hunt (rifle), all the OTC (general) units have tons of pressure. If it isn't hunters, it is sheep and cattle. as others have said either is fine, the 06 would be my choice if traveling from overseas just incase they loose your ammo/take it... would be easier to find, if you can find the Nosler already at a store id shoot that so you can just buy it over here. #6 is a no brainer, Hunt for elk and when you find a decent enough deer you shoot it. You can put in for it, but for 1k apiece you can just buy it OTC from my understanding. If you and your dad take turns driving, from east coast it, s a 3 day drive max, still leaves you 10-11 days of hunting...- Speeddmn

Western hunting expo
Because I am local to SLC i attend the Expo and the ISE every year. I go to see new stuff, the mounts, and just burn a day enjoying hunt related stuff. I don't do the tags or shows there. I do renew my RMEF membership at the ISE. It is not worth the trip from out of state to attend.- Speeddmn

2016 Gear Review. One thing that worked for you, and one that disappointed.
I got mine off camofire for 40ish bucks, these were the mids, the instep areas blew out during archery season. As I drove thru Bozeman I stopped in and told the lady all that and with out questioning anything she replaced them with the new better High's! Customer for life now!- Speeddmn

Hot: Kenetrek Bridget mid and high's hikers. Love em! Outdoor edge folding knife with replacement blades! Alaskan bino harness, holds all my junk I need! Not: Kifaru gun bearer (might be user error) but I can't get it to work right, rifle like to flip over 108 degrees, and then the bolt digs...- Speeddmn

one suggestion on size, is to put the three chairs you plan to use and any bags/gear you plan to have with you, lay it all out on the garage floor and then measure it out... i would think 5 or 6 by 8 would be plenty. I like plenty of storage/shelves. also I rigged up a simple 12v battery and... -
