For all those asking for LE and Regional caps and why we removed "Pick your region". The main reason is we believe choose your species can incentivize (primarily NR) to choose whitetail based on the change in season structure while maintaining current opportunities (tags, cause you know...
Leaving elk overnight sucks. Anecdotally, I've left a couple overnight and haven't experience meat loss other than a couple lbs around the femur bones on 1 bull. That was with daytime temps in the low 90s.
I've seen rifle shot elk get spoilage when left overnight, I think the heavy winter...
Well, if they apply in the NR landowner pool they are only eligible for those. But in 799 they don't even come close to the # of applicants needed to use all the allocated tags. So everyone draws.
Edit: I would have to look and see how many tags NR Landowner get, I'm not sure. Even if it was...

There is either a ton of really good archery hunters here or fibbers.
Personally, I've lost several. 1 for sure I know died cause I shot him in the guts and liver. We waited 6 hrs, but must have bumped him, never found him.
I've shot a couple in the shoulder and seen them days/weeks...
From the harvest data I have looked at, the primary issue with NR is they harvest MD at significantly higher rates than residents across the state. Basically, we need to incentivize a decent portion of NR to chase whitetails instead of mule deer. I think a whitetail season during the rut and...
That was tongue in cheek.
My point is there is plenty of problems with both (archery and rifle).
I have no problem being introspective at how my preferred methods are affecting outcomes on the management side.
The ultimate enemy is having an agency that would rather model limited data...
Who says I'm not day drinking...
From my experience, there are plenty of bucks on public in October. The rut displaces more bucks onto private than anything else.
