Here are a couple of photos. This was an ivory from my first elk 9 years ago. I finally got around to doing something with it. The ivory itself isn't incredibly full of character but its from my first elk hunt with my dad so I wanted to get something for his birthday. I'm not a huge knife...
Not that anyone is following along, but I decided to go with a knife from Rocky Mountain Ivory and use one of my elk ivory tooth as an in-lay in the handle. They did a very quick turn around and it turned out great!
glad to hear you got out to scout ahead of time. As you mentioned, getting in off the road that far should up your odds of finding something. good luck!
The carbon frame makes it really light weight. Bad preparation on my part but 4 days before my hunt, I tried on my buddy's pack and was blown away at the comfort compared to mine. I called them and spoke with one of the co-founders directly and he had one shipped to me that afternoon. Hand...
I used to have a cheap frame pack from Cabelas that worked fine when I was younger and broke. I opted this year to splurge on an Initial Ascent pack. I understand most of the people on this thread have already made their decision/purchase, but I would highly recommend looking into the IA packs...
That's unfortunate.
Not a bad idea, however, my wife has no interest in wearing any sort of jewelry. If it were such a piece, it would be display only. I am going to split one set with my dad as my first elk was with him. That's kind of steering me towards a knife inlay or a money clip, etc.
I have shot a couple of bull elk over the years and have the sets of ivory's. Wondering if anybody has any cool ideas for display or a use for them outside of the typical jewelry? Thanks!
Thanks!! Yes, he was covered. The tank was mostly mud and the only wet spot we found. I believe he was about to wallow in it as he just got done pissing all over himself and the mud.
Just got back from my 16b second archery hunt and thought I would share a little about my experience. I would echo most of what Gila and BrokenArrow have stated.
My hunting partner and I planned on hiking in and setting up camp 4-5 miles from the trailhead and hunting from there. We found a...
Awesome recap. Sounds like a great adventure! Elk hunting is a lot of try, try, try and try again more than it is killing. Glad to hear you were in elk every day and had opportunities. Appreciate the honesty and recommendations for potential future hunts. Even though you were unsuccessful in...
Hopefully it'll cool off a bit for second season. Good tip on the wallows. Not sure if I prefer flies over mosquitos.
I would venture to guess the week between the two archery seasons help the elk "calm down" a bit as well. My tag is for 16B but the reports I've seen for it have been good as well.
I've seen a couple of posts on Instagram and Facebook of some really nice bulls coming out of the Gila during first archery. All of the pictures are showing lots of green! Sounds like great rains over the summer and most to all of the tanks are full of water and plenty of forage for the elk...
OP, thanks for the thread and the detailed information. I will be doing all e-scouting this year as I am 15 hours away. Have an archery tag that a buddy and I are going in DIY and planning on packing in and out (hopefully with an elk). Looks like the Johnson fire is finally under control with a...
