The question, where to hunt if?

Gredos Ibex in Spain, Reindeer and Atlantic Salmon in Iceland, AK Moose/Caribou Float, Canmore AB Bighorn, Chamois in Germany or Austria, and Lord Derby's Eland in the C.A.R, and A B.C. Stone Sheep/Moose/Mtn Caribou combo.

    hunter fitness

I think there's a bunch of us trying to get in better shape this year. One of my favorites for Cardio for hunting. When you head for the Gym, hit a treadmill, set the incline all the way up and go for a nice brisk walk. For me, that ends up at a 15 Degree incline walking at 3.2-3.5mph for...

    Moose Hunting Alaska

There are tons of Moose taken in Scandinavia each year with a 6.5x55 with a 156Gr Slug. Their moose are (from what I understand) smaller than an Alaska Moose. If you wanted to shoot that 6.5x284, I don't think you are going to find a better suited bullet than a 156gr Oryx. In my and my...

    Summer Backpack Trip - Suggestions?

My two all time favorite pack trips were, into the Hilgard Basin lakes. Lee Metcalf wilderness, MT (near Quake Lake) If memory serves me right, I think we camped at Blue Danube Lake, anyhow... If we didn't camp there, we visited it. And up the West Fork of the Sun River up into the Bob. Both...

    .22 ammo

I can only think of really two reasons people hoard ammo and components... Others might have more reasons... But I think they can be lumped into these two. 1. Paranoia, they think the world is going to end; and want to make sure that if it does they don't run out of ammo. Alternately, lots...

    .22 ammo

When I worked at Bob Wards, in 2009 I had a customer come in and tell me "God sent me from TN to this store in Montana to buy 400,000 rounds of .22lr because 'The South Will Rise Again'" We didn't have any .22lr in store... I got a good laugh out of it...

    What you shoot these?

As long as they fit in the magazine of the rifle, they are not loaded over length. I would have 0 qualms about shooting those. Oh... And by the way... As someone who used to work behind the gun counter. If you ask to open the box, most of the time In My Experience, they will let you...

    .22 ammo

I remember when the Remington "Golden Bullet" 550rd packs were $9.99... Not sure if it was in the last 10 years, but definitely within the past 15...

    Recommendations for New Pack?

I wouldn't say that I Want to spend $500 on a daypack, but I realize that the MR that has my eye at the moment will cost close to that. That being said, I don't want to put $500 into a pack that I'm not going to like. I want to make sure that I'm considering the options that are out there...

Oldest hunting clothing you still wear?

I have a disgusting old brown woolrich sweater that I got second hand from my Dad when I started hunting in '98 at 12. That sweater has survived over half my life...

    Sometimes You Hunt Anyway...

I cannot think of many days of hunting in the Highwoods that didn't involve wind, cold or both... Good on 'ya!! I wouldn't imagine the coyote particularly enjoyed that experience, but I bet the rancher enjoys one less mouth to feed come calving season. Well Done!!

    Recommendations for New Pack?

Taking a deeper look at these Kifaru pack, but is it just me... Or with a frame, bag, lid and a load sling... Is it just me or is that $800 for a pack?!?! That's a bitter pill to swallow... Other than packing a Monster Alaskan Moose out, was there anything particular that the NICE frame...

    Decided I like Kid Rock

There are a massive group of people I'd rather hunt with than "Uncle Ted" I mean... Dick Cheney might be on that list... This is an interesting article from Petersen's Hunting about celebrities who hunt, and apparently not only does Bo know Baseball... Bo knows Bow's...

    Recommendations for New Pack?

Hey all! I've been using a badlands 2800 for the past 7 or 8 years and it's getting pretty haggered. Over the past couple seasons several of the zipper pulls have broken, and the bag has developed a few tears... I've been reading lots of the pack threads recently, and just want to get some...

Wow... That is a well fed winter yote! Well done! I don't think I would have waited for him to get close enough for the rimfire either.

Reticle / scope for 300 Win Mag

If you Zero the Zeiss at 200 yds. The zero should stay at 200yds throughout all magnification settings, but the distance between the range markers does and will change at all the power settings. It may just be that with the two instances you provided that are not using a broad enough power...

    38 days!!!!!!!

From one Montanian to another... Welcome! I hope you find a great place to settle in. There certainly are lots of great options for people to settle in MT. I lived in Bozeman most of my life, and really like the area. Now I'm in Missoula and enjoy it here as well. No offense against either...

    .243 bullet suggestions

Standard Remington twist currently is 1-9.125" for the .243 in a varmint config. If you want to go to the heavy side, the Berger 95Gr Classic hunter is listed as stabilizing in a 1-10"twist A 100gr Flatbase shouldn't be an issue. Over 100gr's... Could be dicey... Probably not worth the price...
