Jim,
The problems with your pack should be covered under warranty. The next time you come to the big city bring it with you or have someone else bring it down for you.
BTW, I tried to email you, but the address I have doesn't work any more?? Email me when you get a chance.
Ken
That moose was shot in Russia (Kamchatka) last December. The rack was sitting in the back room of the little store I work in during the winter. The spread was 68", and if I remember right the palms were 18' or so. Casey is pretty close. I do remember weighing the rack and top of the shull - 85...
I've heard of people getting busted for a sub-legal (under 50") moose, and I've heard the same thing that happened to your brother and his buddies. It must be what kind of mood the cop is in that day or something.
Yeah, seeing a moose for the first time it would be hard to tell if it was 48" or...
Thanks for all the congrats. It was really a trip of a lifetime. After we cut the bull up we had to pack the backstraps and tenderloins all the way to our fire.(about 100yds) By far the easiest pack I've ever had. :D We stayed out there until all the tenderloin was gone.
Ovis, get a hold of me...
Wow, I just got back into town a few days ago. Looks like the BS has been flying about the DS ram.
Congratulations on you ram DS. I've only been guiding sheep hunts for 13 years, so I don't know if I have as much experience as the ex-spurt on the other board. By looking at the photos I finally...
My son and I got a chance to spend some time together during the moose season. We had almost two weeks, so we took some food, a lot of barley beverages, and decided to camp out on a gravel bar and see if a moose would come along. My son shot this bull right from our camp on the fifth day we were...
lbg, I don't really disagree with what you're saying if you saw the bear out in the bush somewhere, but the fact is he just happens to be in a populated very visible area. I would imagine there are a few folks in Juneau who would like to see him get away from town, but the point I was trying to...
So the game board made an emergency closure for white phase black bears around a relatively populated area (Juneau), which btw is loaded with tourists this time of year.
What do you think would happen if a bunch of tourists saw someone kill this very unusual bear? My guess is then there would...
DS, good luck on your hunt. It sounds like your bro has found a honey hole. :D
You should ask your brother to call F&G up here to ask them what exactly "must be accompanied in the field by" either a relative or a guide means before you decide to split up on your hunt.
8 1/2 feet not that big?? Come on Moosie, are you on those guys who wants the 10 footer or nothing? :D
Thats a real nice bear, and you're right, 8 1/2 isn't a giant, but the first thing that caught my eye was the claws. Holy crap, he's got some diggers. I would have shot that bear in a heart...

I keep a diary of sorts when I'm out hunting, so I won't forget a lot of things that hppened. CRS, you know.
Now I can't remember where I put the friggin diary! :D :D
Ken
t_k, i just got this from a friend of mine in Tx. It's a breakdown of his trip costs, I think from 2000. He flew out with HIgh Adventure Air out of Soldotna.
COST of hunt
UPS 2day air of gear up to Soldotna ~ $204/each
Hunting license ~ $85
Caribou tag ~ $325
wolf tag ~ $30

Thank you all for the welcome. From what I've seen you guys and gals have a lot of fun here.
The bear in the bottom photo was shot first, early in May. We were trying to encourage a BIG brown bear to stick around so we left him a gut pile. The next morning the carcass was gone, taken by...

I've watched this forum for a long time and decided to join in and share a couple of pics from this spring. I guided both of these guys in the Prince William Sound area of Alaska in May.
