Truth is Santa gave Alasken the badass flu right before Christmas. And I always hated the chunks of coal I got before. I was pretty sick, almost didn't go. I hung around thre inlaws homestead the whole time I was there. Managed to jump shoot some teal and shot a few quail too, but no big bird...
Cool, I found out last week my favorite nephew has a real good buddy who guides goose hunts, so I can't wait to see what the youngster has in mind for his favorite uncle. Yep tomorrow afternoon I get into Boise, and staying until the 31st. I also hear rumors of quail hunting on the inlaws...
This is from video I took last month, so the quality isn't great. The bear was about 25 yards away, and walking toward me. I picked up a rock and hit his left front foot with it. Then he went into the brush.
Thanks brokfut! Now you're talkin'. I'll be in Nyssa, so getting to the border shouldn't be a problem. I'll be there from 12/22-12/31, or later. I have an old car the in-laws have been storing for me forever I really want to get on the road.
BTW, Moosie, congrats on your sheep. Good looking ram...
So far it sounds encouraging. I'll be talking to my bro-in-law tonight. I don't think access to land will be a problem. His family has a bunch of land we hunted on for pheasants the last time I was down there, about 7 or 8 years ago. I sure want to try my new super x2 on some big birds. I'll let...
Thanks for the responses. I'm not sure if there's a boat available or not. I'm going to get in touch with my bro-in-law and see though. It sure would be nice to shoot something while I'm down there.
I'm going to be visiting family in Eastern Oregon (Malheur County) for Christmas and am wondering if the waterfowl hunting is any good that time of year.
Ken
Moosie, are you going for a trail walk eating granola, or are you going sheep hunting??
I agree with ovis, sheep terrain will eat those boots alive.
My expert advice is to get boots with a lot more ankle support, whatever brand fits you the best. all the top name boots are good...
The guy in the photo is Joe Hendricks, who's a master guide in Ak. He has guide areas in ANWR, Kodiak, and the Alaska Peninsula. I agree with lilbiggun, there's no way it's a bear from the North Slope. It's a solid 10 footer, and they just don't grow that big up there. Here's his web site...
Cool OO. You should have a great time. There are a lot of moose in the Swanson River area, so have your camera ready. Just curious, who are you fishing with on the Kenai? I'm in Anchorage, so if you have any time here, maybe we could meet somewhere.
Thanks for the congrats.
stanleyaz, I've heard of Warren Johnson, but don't know anything about him.
Call BS on me anytime Moosie. Won't do ya any good though.
Here's a picture and the story of a bear hunt I guided on the Alaska Peninsula in May.
Tom, my hunter and I got put on a beach on the Bering Sea where there was a dead whale (gray whale I think). The plan was to put us about a mile from the whale, but we ended up more than three miles down...
I saw that bull this morning when I took my wife to work. It's even more weird looking in person. The antlers look larger than in the photos. I'm taking my camera this afternoon when I go to pick her up.
I'm leaving Wednesday for a brown bear hunt in the mountains north of Valdez. It sounds like the snow is still good for snwmachines, but won't be for long. I love spring time. :D
I'll be back some time next week. I told the wife I'll be home Monday, but we all know how hunting trips go. ;)
