Santa Fe National Forest closure
The Ute Park fire has Philmont Scout reservation evacuated from what I have seen. They should be receiving lots of treks starting this week makes me sad for all the Crews that have prepped for over a year to go hiking there. My Troop looked at going this year and decided to put it off a year.- FlatlandHunter

Wyoming general elk tag?
If you go to the Wyoming Game and Fish website you can look at Elk areas and find out what areas are considered general and what areas are limited entry. Wildnerness areas in Wyoming require a guide to be in if your a NR unless you have a friend that is registered with the State. Good luck- FlatlandHunter

Which projectile for elk
I have a Cabelas Hawken 50 cal ML that I have found really likes the 275 gr TC Maxi Hunters. I have shot the TC 370 gr Maxi Ball and the 385 gr Hornady Great Plains and have not found a powder charge that is grouping as nice as the 275 gr Maxi Hunters. HMA odds in Wyoming
I have always gone for the HMA's with unlimited slips and not had a problem finding antelope. I figure out the last time out for Antelope that I would go drive around the outside perimeter looking as much as possible, then figure out which 1 looked better and drive to the G&F center for my slip...- FlatlandHunter

A couple mule deer and antelope questions for first western hunt
I believe most states have made it illegal to transport whole deer across State lines.
