Well the baby came early so I haven't had time to hunt it yet but have been able to get the bait out. Went today and kicked the big one out of the corn field. He is all of 300 lbs. There are also a couple smaller ones. Here are some more pics....
30 minutes to St Paul makes it metro to me. but maybe I am wrong. I have only harvested 2 bears in my career. I shot my first bear 20 years ago and I thought it was a giant when i saw it... it was 125 lbs. The second one's belly almost rubbed the ground ended up being a 14.5 year old dry sow...
Maybe this will help I am 5'9" and 210 lbs with a 30 inseam... Seems like everyone is across the board. He is big enough for me, I am hoping I get a chance at him so we can get a real weight. I figure for hunting the metro area of MN harvesting a self guided bear is an accomplishment.
Metro area black bear... Bait is getting hit but not regularly yet. Anyone care to guess the size? The barrels are 35 gal and the ground slopes down and away from them.
Well I live in MN and have no real hope of drawing here. What are my options for out of state? I would like to do something public land with a high success rate. I am not too worried about shooting a monster I would be happy with a cow. What states have the best access/success/over the counter...
Just saw this add posted on craigslist. Looks legit?? anyone else have any info on them coming to my beautiful state?

Pic looks like it is from MN and the owner seems as surprised as me.
What do you guys think?
Anchor river has great fishing early Aug... you can camp right on the river and do a half day halibut charter. You can also go into homer and fish the fishing hole on the spit I guess it was overflowing with silvers, jacks and kings this year.
still no luck
still no luck went out yesterday and did a honey burn then got rained on for 2 hours before I gave up. Good thing is the bears are coming in during daylight. Bad news is that there is no real pattern, they come in every day for a couple days then nothing for a day or 2 and at all...
Well no luck again. Goin out tomorrow and doing a burn and if that doesn't work I am going back on Sunday and removing all of the bait except a small amount. I figured you guys were right, I just really didn't want to have to haul all of that stinky stuff out. Ohhh well, I guess sometimes you...
thanks for all the info guys. i was able to get tomorrow off and convince my wife that going hunting was a good idea. there is going to be a big temp drop, 90 today and a high of 73 tomorrow. I have stayed away from the bait since sat. I think its taking them a day or two to get comfortable and...
41 I haven't even been out since opener. With the heat and the bait not being hit I figured I would let it cool off. I am heading out tomorrow to check again and decide from there on what I do. Let me know how the honey burn works for ya. I am probably going to try the same thing. Good luck.
I shot one in 95 and one in 98. The one in 98 dressed out at just under 300. I just want to knock one down this year, but not a small one (under 150). I am hoping to use this year to get my skills in order and next year expand to 3 baits and try to get something with a little size...
